Camco Los Angeles in light Blue

Hi Folks,

Need the input from the Camco Connoisseurs over here.

Please have a look at some advert pictures,... local pick up only.

I read good things about the sound on these Camco's but personally never had the chance to try one out.

Is this particular model/finish rare?

What snare model is this?

I might consider to drive up there and make an offer.

This looks like a set of "Alice Cooper Blue". Should be 6 ply shells w/ reinforcement rings. (Each type of Camco shell has it own fans). This set is well worth tracking down, ASAP. The set appears to be in excellent condition.(You'll have to see it in person to determine if the finish is original). Be sure to check each lug carefully for cracked & lifting areas around the tension rod inserts, especially on the snare.

I play 4-ply Oaklawns, if those tubs sound half as good as mine, grab the kit. Love Camco's. Excellent build quality.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks for the input and the tip for checking the lugs.

I have the impression that the snare shell is dented. (lug left of badge)

I should be able to negotiate a price under 1K.

Would that be a fair deal?

The cymbals are included but I have no idea what they are so they could potentially sweeten the deal.

Going to have a look at them on Wednesday.

Seeing as you would pay $300-400 to ship this kit to Sweden, you can look at it as $500-600 plus ship.........

Not too bad still......

Rare drums in a rare finish.......

Snare muffler knob looks like it was replaced though..........(it's not chrome)

Completely different animal John. L.A. Camco shells are 6 ply Keller. Oaklawns are 3,4 or 6 ply Jasper.

Ok folks, here they are,... !

1970's Alice Cooper blue Camco's in sizes: 24", 16", 12'"and 13".

The snare is a 5" with 8 lugs.

I managed to negotiate the price down to 850 Euro. (asking price was 1250)

From a distance the kit looks great, from close,... well,... it has his flaws.

- A couple of scratches in the paint.

- 2 small holes drilled near the 12" tom mount plate. (... the horror,....)

- Dent in the snare shell.

- Missing bottom hoops on both toms. (tension rods are present)

The blue paint has a metallic appearance and looks stunning under a lightsource. It changes to a turquoise, greenish color,... absolutely beautifull.

The shells and bearing edges seem to be in perfect condition so soundwise, I'm convinced it will be sweet.

No cracked lugs and all chrome looks fine.

The kit came with a pair of very light 1960's Zildjian Avedis 13" hihats and a 1960's Tosco 16" ride.

The hardware is a mish mash of Sonor and MIJ. The speedking was a nice bonus !

I'll probably sell the cymbals and speedking so that should bring me an extra 200. A Camco including the snare for 650 Euro, not a bad deal considering the extreme rarity of Camco's over here in Europe.

Once I start to clean them up, I will start a thread in the "restoring" section.

You're going to love those drums. I've had mine for a number of years and still can't get over the quality and the sound.

Also, don't let anyone tell you these are the same as DW... they are not. Camco's are much better IMHO... of course I may be biased...
