vintagemore2000/GretschGuy/kevins:
Thanks so much for the feedback. I do apreciate it!Bowing
I got a chance to take a closer look at the kit. The wrap (champagne sparkle) is in really nice shape, with minimal to no fade, no significant scratches or scrapes that I could see (with my one good eye!) and no tears. However, it is lifting evenly on each drum at the seams.
As originally stated, no modifications have been made to any of the drums nor are there any extra holes in any of the shells. Other than the lifting wrap, the other cosmetic issues that I noticed were:
1. Chrome flaking off of the diamond tom mount;
2. Significant scratching & scuffs on the die cast hoops on the toms;
3. Rust on the floor tom legs;
4. Dark brown painted (?) bass drum hoops; and
5. An extremely small piece of the champagne sparkle in-lay is missing on one of the hoops.
Configuration is 20/13/16 and included are two Avedis Zildjian cymbals (20 & 18) and two cymbal stands. The bass drum has the original Gretsch logo head on the resonant side. There's a possibility that I could get this kit, including the two cymbals & stands, for under $1,000.
However, I'm not in the position to spend significantly more to address the aforementioned cosmetic issues. Do you believe that these issues could be handled by an amateur like myself? Also, thinking "down the road", do you think that a Gretsch kit in this configuration and wrap would bring a decent amount of interest as far as resale value goes?
I happen to own a Gretsch Name Band snare in the identical wrap and thus the interest in this particular kit.
THANKS in advance for any and all input!
