Re: 1968 Buddy Rich Played Slingerlands

If it's any good news, the West Side kit had a wood snare that was replaced with a metal one at some time.

Re: 1968 Buddy Rich Played Slingerlands

I already did that math and it pans out. It would be one panel to the right of the leg near the BD pedal. Not visible. Allows for a cymbal stand to be placed close.

The NBC kit was first sold for...

Re: 1968 Buddy Rich Played Slingerlands

There is documentation that Rich wanted a Slingy kit for Carson and it was to stay there because buddy played Carson all the time, so there may have been two.

Carson would get it factory ordered...

Re: 1968 Buddy Rich Played Slingerlands

I still have a few questions,

Why would Slingerland move the cymbal mounts if they don't have to ?
Who's been playing the other floor tom so much ? You can count on your hands how many times he...

Re: Help with wrap color

That's it. Different lot number or something but that's it. Look at the snare.

Re: 1968 Buddy Rich Played Slingerlands

Am I the only one who sees a cymbal stand in the foreground of the FT ? There also appears to be a mic stand/wire or something too.

There are more Slingy badges without serial numbers than with,...

Re: 1968 Buddy Rich Played Slingerlands

Don't get me wrong, Buddy would play a drum with badges and if he had to, the stage itself. Seen him do it.

He was a sore winner that day.

Re: 1968 Buddy Rich Played Slingerlands

As In Buddy saying, I don't need no stink`n badges.

Since it went over ya head,.....major drum companies ID their drums with a trademark badge, tag, sticker, serial# badge,...and so on.

Yes,...

Re: Can We Talk Sticks?

The shaft of Maple holds well to rim riffs, but most of the wood's have issues at the tips. The tip of Maple feathers apart easy. Most of them look really good, but if you have knots of any kind,...

Re: Speed King Timeline?

Do you favor the felt beater or is that pretty much the way they came ? Mine has the same felt beater since I got it in the 70's.

Re: Can We Talk Sticks?

Oak handles the rim shots real good.

I went out collected many branches from around the woods. I had a friend dry and mill many wood types into sticks.

Apple.....no good
Birch,... no good....

Re: Identification...Ludwig Thermogloss Over Natural Mahogany?

Not much gets by these luddy guys. I gave benefit of doubt, others simply know better.

Re: Your thoughts on Cympads?

To me, the type of washer I use is irrelevant, it is how tight or lose I tighten it down. I don't want the metal to metal contact.

Re: Identification...Ludwig Thermogloss Over Natural Mahogany?

Well we both can agree this kit is re-finished. The hoops look to be Maple, that tight squarish grain. The shell as well could be a stained Maple, I have no reason to say it is though. It's not in my...

If you could spare any of that little, Give it to those statues. Get them to move and show signs of live.

Re: One Way Out With Ludwig

I don't mean to sound insulting or anything to them, but they are not at the same level as you. You show life when you play. That's a big part of being on stage.

Re: Fixing Shell Cracks?

Wood don't rattle, it squeaks and vibrates and buzzes. Loose screws with washers will rattle.

To check the integrity of that seam, press down on it going both sides working from edge to edge....

Re: Fixing Shell Cracks?

That's a seam. It's angled like a "booking" seam used in veneering.
