Re: Famous Quotes That Are Legend in Your Own Mind

Don't think I'm not stupid.

If you can't fix it, feature it.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

Noting improves productivity like the last minute.

Re: Best Drum Mounting System Developed.

+1 geckobeats! Iso feet are awesome. Another vast improvement that will not impact the value or character of a vintage drum but drastically improve sound quality.

Re: Gretsch RB Champaign Sparkle

I believe he is asking 4k for the 5 drums and hardware. I've told him that I felt this was too high and he is amenable to offers.

Gretsch RB Champaign Sparkle

Hey guys,
A friend of mine has this kit for sale in a desirable color, desirable sizes and matching snare. I believe I would be up for purchasing it myself, but just have not been getting much...

Re: Best Drum Mounting System Developed.

So to me, I want my drums to sound as good as they can possibly sound. Therefore, isolation mounts for me.

Also agreed that recording technologies have drastically changed the way drums can be...

Re: Best Drum Mounting System Developed.

That last comment alludes to something I hve heard many times and find quite interesting; the original "sound" of many vintage drums were part and parcel with the mounting systems used. That applies...

Re: Best Drum Mounting System Developed.

I use RIMS mounts on all of my vintage drums for the following reasons:

- it allows me to use one style of hardware (L-arms in my case) for all my kits.

- no alteration to the existing shell
...

Re: Which Precision wrap will be era-correct for round badges?

I think I would avoid glass finishes as they are thicker and Gretsch shells are difficult enough to install heads without the additional thickness. I think you would be just fine with a sparkle...

Re: Chicago Drum Show -

That silver JM finish is just killer. It is certainly bitter-sweet though. Jeff I am I am a little jealous that you got to go but am glad you did. Looks like a great time with some good folks.

Re: I got a Slingerland Kit - Let me in the club!

...and don't rush to clean them either. You can do a lot of damage in simply trying to clean a vintage kit like that. Either leave that to the person to whom you end up selling or spend a lot of time...

Re: I got a Slingerland Kit - Let me in the club!

Welcome. Nice kit. Slingerland drums are great but don't get a ton of respect in some quarters. Pay no attention as a lot of killer recordings were done using Slingerland drums. I have quite a few of...

Just be advised that a kit like this may very well require edge work.

My heart goes out to Jerry's friends and family. I only knew him on this forum and over at DFO as well as his making a beautiful snare drum for me. My prayers are with his family. God's speed...

Re: 1963 Premier Black Diamond Pearl

Sweet! Nice job on the restoration. I am a huge Premier fan. Did you get the Lokfast snare stand in the initial picture? Those are the hands down, the best looking stands ever.

Re: Is this really worth $4500?

Agreed with the above, however, I tend to think his 80k comment was akin to saying "they made a bojillion of these kits." That does (as mentioned) seem to be counter-intuitive as to the perceived...

Re: Impulse Pearl Wood Fiberglass buy

Agreed. Loud and heavy. The wood used in these drums was Luan not unlike their earlier stencil kits. Because of this, the edges can be pretty miserable. I believe the edge profile was always intended...

Re: Oh,the SHAME...of masonite-

I too am curious about how one would ever re-use a wrap. My guess is that it would not be difficult at all to remove the wrap as that kit has all the ear marks of a taped on wrap, but still, lining...
