Re: Future Vintage?

That's awesome! I'd love to find some '80s Superstars myself. I can confirm the late 70s and early 80s Pearl Maple shells do indeed sound great!

Re: Future Vintage?

I have a couple of friends who are both big time vintage Rogers guys. They've each checked out my '80 Pearl Maple kit, and on both occasions I just about had to help them pick their jaws up off the...

Re: Future Vintage?

I guess I'm one of the few guys who dig '80s drums. At only 28 I'm fairly young though. I really like the early '80s Japanese stuff from right before the power tom craze. (Pearl, Yamaha, Tama) My...

Re: This is the Display Your MIJ Drums Thread

Here is my MIJ kit. 1980 Pearl Big Beat outfit in Walnut lacquer. Shells are G-series 8 ply Maple. 6mm thick with no re-rings, and rounded 45 degree bearing edges. Sizes are 13/14/16/18/24. Paired...

Re: Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

Interestingly the combination of clear Pinstripe batters over coated Ambassador resonant heads on the toms sounds really, really good!!! They have the attack from the clear batters, but yet also that...

Re: Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

Thanks guys! I've been playing them like crazy! I'm still just as excited about them as the day I got them too! The fact that the new kit feeling hasn't worn off really tells me that this is the...

Re: Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

Thanks guys!!! They definitely have no problem getting loud, but they're also sensitive enough to play quietly, and everything in between too! It seems a lot of people tend to overlook these not...

Re: Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

As I've said before, I'd like to add a few more cymbals and stands to this kit. Originally it would have come with two 903D straight stands. One of which was still with the kit when I found it, and I...

Re: Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

Haha! You're correct on the internal mufflers. There is a batter side muffler for the snare, and all 4 toms. The ones for the toms were missing when I bought the kit, but luckily Pearl still makes...

Re: Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

Thanks! I know I could easily flip them and make some cash, but I've formed a bond with this kit already lol! I'm absolutely in love with them, and I don't think I'll ever be selling them. They're...

Re: Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

Working on giving the bass drum a wipe down tonight. It's very dusty, but also covered in a super fine mist of white paint overspray. Looks like someone was spray painting too close to the drums....

Re: Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

Thanks for the welcome everyone! There were some Pearl drums from that era that used Keller shells because the Japanese plant couldn't handle the demand, and they were in the process of upgrading...

Introduction and my BELOVED new maple kit!

Hello everyone! I'm 27 and have been playing drums for as long as I can remember really, but after a bad breakup of my old band I ended up selling off my Taye kit and taking a break from music for a...
