Re: 1961 Slingerland? Help needed

You did well. The guy who bought the drums knew what he was getting, paid a fair price, and knows how to rehab them. Congratulations.

Re: Slingerland Info Sought

If you can find chromed carriage bolts, drop them in to the extra holes. It will look like some of the European drums (Sonor, etc.) that used them to mount their overly large tom mounts.

Re: 1961 Slingerland? Help needed

If I had the two toms and the bass drum at a bargain basement price, I would put period original tom mounting hardware back on the small tom and bass drum. It looks to me that the replacement...

Re: Slingerland Info Sought

This old timer has gigged with several drum sets configured with two 8x12" toms mounted on the bass drum--mostly Slingerland. I've also gigged with a Camco set that had two 9x13" toms mounted on the...

Re: Rogers Red Onyx Drums Complete

If they were my drums, and I want to gig with them, I would say: "Damn the nay-sayers". I would re-wrap them. At that point, it doesn't matter what wrap you choose. If you're going to replace the...

Re: Rogers Red Onyx Drums Complete

I agree whole-heartedly. The blue, grey/black, and yellow varieties from Rogers and/or Slingerland are also good looking wraps.

Re: Rogers Red Onyx Drums Complete

Unfortunately, it's the nature of the beast. The material used to make this type of sheet goods wrap was prone to becoming brittle, and cracking. The vintage style pearl wraps such as WMP and BDP...

Re: Restoring a PAINTED Ludwig Super Classic set

For the sake of mankind, please remove the paint from the metal parts, too. Probably a one or two day soak in paint remover or lacquer thinner will do the heavy work followed by another one or two...

Re: Picked up my dream drum set today

I would definitely mention that the PROPER tom mount was PROPERLY installed after the bass drum left the factory. And, I'm not playing any type of card relative to the virginity hocum that some folks...

Re: Picked up my dream drum set today

You are no doubt aware of what opinions are like. If no one told you that a vintage-correct tom mount was properly installed last week by a person in Omaha, or installed when the drums were sold by...

Re: Picked up my dream drum set today

I mentioned that installing the Swivomatic receiver on the bass drum would not be sacrilege. In my not so humble opinion, placing a Swivo-equipped tom on a snare stand goes beyond sacrilege.

Re: Picked up my dream drum set today

I don't think that it would be sacrilege to install a Swivomatic tom holder on that bass drum. If the installation is done properly, only you would know that the drum did not leave the factory or...

Re: Rogers Eagle Badge Drums

My 1961 Rogers set that I ordered from my home town music store had the Rogers script logos on the drums. All of the drums were Holiday series 8x12, 16x16, 14x20, and 5x14 snare. All of the drums...

Re: 1946 Leedy Shell Info Needed

Back when I played drums for a living. You heard of that period...back in the stone age of the 1950's--1980's. The drum shells were either metal or WOOD. The wood was either a single ply or laminated...

Re: Another Rogers

That settles it, Old Joe Rogers' ghost roamed the factory on St. Patrick's Day, and slapped those labels on the drum shells.

Re: Another Rogers

I wonder if the drums with the green labels were assembled on March 17th by a guy with a great sense of humor named Kelly.

Re: Where can I get a Spring for this Old Tama Pedal

Worst case is that a good mom and pop hardware store can match the spring part. Then, you can attach key ring loops with the split ends of the needed sizes to the spring. It will work very well.

Re: Where can I get a Spring for this Old Tama Pedal

The drum repair person at a full service music store should have this type of spring. Many music stores have parts kits for the drums they sell. This sounds to me like it's a fairly generic part that...

Re: Help identify and value please.

This reminds me of how music store workers know when school is out for the Summer. Phone rings: "Hello.......How much is one drum stick"?

Re: Slingerland Drum research, help!

If those cymbals are either Avedis Zildjian top line or K Zildjian cymbals, and the $1,500 price includes all of the hardware, that price would be good if it included shipping it to you.
