Re: Ludwig badges

In the early 70's there were some blue olive badge drums with no serials. Have seen them on several drum sets and snares as well.

Re: Rare Ludwig Identification

It's my understanding that these are 20's as well. I've read that the Aero Kraft concept was a marketing strategy put together by Ludwig during that period based on an actual event.

Re: Ludwig Cymbal Mount

These are also the same mount as the bass drum mounts for the disappearing spurs. Might need to mention if you nickel or chrome.

Re: Star Sound Cymbals

I see some cymbals in the '66 catalog. But they are listed as King's Stone models. I did find a Star font in that catalog that looked much like that on the cymbal however.

Re: My first 22" A - age?

Beautiful Large Stamp model. Love the lathing and bell. That's a fine weight. The stamp being seen from the underside is common on the Large Stamp models.

Re: Convert Ludwig Concert Snare Drum to Jazz Festival

Don't modify it. That's a great drum. I'd buy a Jazz Festival if it were me...or even a Pioneer. But i'd leave the 6.5 as is.

Re: "Guilty Pleasure" Cymbals

I've got a 24" Roxy that is NS12. Made in Germany. Man what a great a cymbal. Have a few other candidates for this topic. That's the first one that comes to mind though.

Re: Does anybody know what this is?

Do a google search on Electricsound. There are a few references out there. Good luck!

Re: Is Chroming Nickel Hardware A Detrimental Modification

Real nice vintage nickel hardware can be hard to find these days. I'd say put that hardware away and round up some more common nice chrome hardware to replace it with. Might even find someone that...

Re: Ludwig B/O Black Panther kit

I think the price is pretty good. He mentions Acrolite. That is not an Acrolite in the pics.

Re: Paiste Ludwig Swiss 3-star cymbals

I have a set of Ludwig Paiste 3 star cymbals and they are NS12. They sound really nice as well.

Re: 1966 Ludwig Jazz Festival Snare - questions

Nice find! as Marko mentioned, that is a faded WMP wrap. Ludwig actually has a new wrap that is made to look like that. Enjoy!

Re: super classic bass drums

We later figured out that the wrap is actually the same wrap that Gretsch used and called Starlight Sparkle instead of Burgundy. Most likely some type of special order. I now also have a 13" tom and...

Re: floor tom shells

Should be mahogany interior, poplar and then mahogany exterior if wrapped...or maple exterior if it is a painted shell. That's the norm anyway. Center badge placement is correct for a 64. Most 64s do...

Re: Cleaning and Acrolite

I would do just what you mentioned Jeff. Clean the area and any type of good wax/polish to coat it for the future.

Re: 1966 Ludwig Pioneer question

Nickel or chrome were both still available in '66. Since the rest of your hardware is nickel, I'd say that the top hoop was replaced at some point. Possibly a mistake at the factory. Original new...

Re: Timeline for Ludwig Baseball Bat Muffler on toms

Red felts also continued into 1965. During the first few months of '65 the red and white felts were used together. I assume this ended when the stock of the red felt mufflers was exhausted.
