Re: Vintage Cymbal Identification

By the way, the signature is not engraved, it's signed, presumably by the craftsman who made the cymbal

Re: Help - Ludwig Gold Sparkle / Pearl - 60's?

The overall look of Ludwig lugs has not changed for probably 70 years. The lugs on that drum are not Ludwig.

Re: 30's Pioneer bass drum-trap set

I had a new Speed Master pedal which I bought as a teen back in the day. Brings back memories. I couldn't afford a Speed King.

Re: 30's Pioneer bass drum-trap set

Very cool, The snare drum, in the picture at least, looks good with it. That probably in part because of the combination of the brass tube lugs and hoops which gives it a vintage look. Very nice....

Re: Zanchi Cymbal

The nice thing is that they are so reasonably priced when you can find them. My son Milestones scored a pair of Zanchi 14" thin hats in excellent condition for $99. They sound terrific and are great...

Re: How can I salvage this kit?

As others have suggested, its doable, but will take time and a lot of effort. If you are not willing or able to invest both perhaps sell it for what you paid for it to someone who's interested in a...

Re: Another “How much is my old K worth” question...

A few pictures and a clear one of the stamp would be helpful. While you seem to be on top of what you have, you might be surprised how often Old K stamps are misidentified. Drumaholic and Zenstat...

Re: A Very Interesting Find

I also had one back in the 60s, While certainly useful is you not want to drill holes, I never felt they sounded as good as the real thing.

Re: 1965 Ludwig Downbeat on Reverb

Am I remembering correctly that when BEC was selling off about 90 snare drums last year one of his Jazz Fests was in that finish? It is a fairly rare finish and draws a large premium as a result, If...

Re: Low Volume Cymbals-Why are the prices so high?

The "high" price is actually relative and remember this is a specialty item. Most of the new ride cymbals that I would purchase are hand-hammered Turkish made designs that list for around $500-$800....

Re: Ludwig Keystone Badge headscratcher

Yep, I noted that as well. Perhaps it wasn't cost effective for the number of copies they sold, or maybe it's still available by special order only. I also noted there were only a couple of exotic...

Re: Gotta Love the International Listings

I'm guessing the intent was to describe a full--bodied sound with the unfortunate result that the translation program confused full-bodied with full-figured and translated it as buxom. If you replace...

Re: Requesting Opinions on Snare Colors

While the Grover looks better, the only important decision for me would be which snare sounded better in the context of the whole kit and the music it will used for. Sound and performance comes...

Re: Matched date 1965 Ludwig WMP kit value

If you do enjoy owning them, why are you considering selling them? And if you do sell them to your friend are you doing it strictly out of friendship? Because if you are, you will probably end up...

Re: Dating a Zildjian K

That is a very poor site for referencing vintage stamps. Only a few examples and little descriptive information. I'm still not sure how you came up with 1928. There was only one example of a vintage...

Re: Vintage Cymbal Sizzler Attachments

I has one of the ones with three rivits on each side during the '60s. I don't recall the brand. They were certainly convenient but didn't sound as good as the real thing. I think it was because as...

Is the 1956-1957 date for that type still accurate? My reference is your original research which you had posted on cymbaholic quite a few years ago. Has your more recent research caused you to alter...

Re: Dating a Zildjian K

I can't find any site by that name. Can you provide a link to it? In any case, I'm fairly positive that the stamp is from the mid 50's, and in any case is certainly not from 1928.

Re: Dating a Zildjian K

I believe what you have there is a Type IIIc Old Stamp from around 1956-1957. I base that on the location of the star above the crescent, the wrapping and distance of the "Made in Turkey" around...

Re: My New Old Avedis Rant

No apology necessary, perhaps my response to you was not as sensitive as it should have been. I'm sorry you got frustrated by your experience with this purchase..
