Re: Gene Krupa playing a Dynasonic?

After posting I was second guessing myself that Gene may have had a disguised Fibes rather than a Dyna but upon double checking there are at least two websites dedicated to Gene that confirm the...

Re: Gene Krupa playing a Dynasonic?

I recall hearing that Gene had a "stealth" Dyna made up for himself using Slingerland lugs but that once Bud Slingerland found out about it he made Gene stop using it. Similar to Buddy using his...

Re: Ludwig 1970s double tom mount question

I had that happen on a couple of these. The threads are cut into the casting itself (pot metal) and the steel bolt is much harder so eventually it strips out the threads. Best bet is to get a new...

Re: 1964/1965 Ludwig set in white wrap?

My guess is the older drums have mahogany exteriors so it would be tough to get a smooth finish with paint unless you did a lot of prep work. The drums Ludwig intended to paint had maple exteriors to...

Re: Rogers kit barn find ANY/ALL info appreciated!

Uploaded jpeg Pics can't have either dimension exceed 1000 pixels so maybe you need to reduce their size first. I usually make the larger dimension 999 pixels just to be safe.

Re: 1964/1965 Ludwig set in white wrap?

No 4 ply Ludwig drums before the 1980s and none with re rings ever. Does that floor tom have a scarf joint? Even if Ludwig did make a 4 ply drum prior to around 1978 (when they introduced the 6 ply...

Re: Please help

Is it a ball arm?
if so Gibraltar/Ludwig/DW/Gretsch all use the same sized ball design. I bought one of the Remo branded ones several years ago (because it had an extended "L" arm) and have used it...

Re: So much for the ludwig p-88

Is that the new butt plate that just came out. The original design was supposed to replace either the P-32 or the cast behemoth they've been using. The casting has spots with spacing for the screws...

Re: 1964/1965 Ludwig set in white wrap?

That floor tom is odd, does look Ludwig but also looks like it's 4 plies which would not have re-rings. Possibly someone took a later Rocker model and added re-rings which might explain the weird...

Re: 1964/1965 Ludwig set in white wrap?

The floor tom (last picture of the three right?) appears to be a Ludwig as far as I can tell. Mahogany/poplar/mahogany 3 ply layup which would be one of the variations Ludwig was using at the time...

Re: Criagslist find...Ludwig - Someone needs to buy this :)

22" club date bass and 12 or 13" club date tom both in red sparkle. Plus a snare of unknown heritage (because it was photographed sitting in a case) all for $50. Darn right it's gone already.

Re: Help identifying 1969 Ludwig kit in gold mist

Pro Beat outfit first appears in the 71 catalog. ALL the outfits were the same drums, just different size and hardware combinations so there is no difference between a 9x13 tom found in a Pro Beat,...

Re: Ludwig Standard Lugs Switcheroo

The new flat imperials would work. That might look cool. Seen a few with tube lugs, also a unique look...otherwise the Bowties are really the only other easy swap but then it will look like one of...

Re: Slingerland Avante in Sparkling Orange Pearl

Wow! That's pretty cool.
You don't see many of those orange sparkle Slingies. I've only ever seen a couple of individual examples in person. Seems like the Orange sparkle Slingerland wrap is a bit...

Re: Did Ludwig Ever Have A Catalog Kit in the 60's of 13, 14, 16, 18 24?

There were gaps of time between catalogs, usually at least two years, sometimes 3 or 4 years. The Pro Beat first shows up in the '71 catalog which probably came out in 1970 but that outfit isn't in...

Re: Help for Slingerland code number

Those are just serial numbers on the badges and as such they do not contain any coded information about the drum. The numbers can give a ballpark idea as to when a drum was made but beyond that...

Re: My 1st Gretsch Round Badge kit!

Looks good to me. I have a similar set also in Silver Sparkle. The top center placement of the cymbal bracket was a 50's thing that was standard on some of their catalog sets.

Re: Cymbal stand 'clip,' and Mystery Stand--??

Ringo's 1400 stands had those separate pieces to hold the top tube (as did every other Ludwig drummer's 1400 stand prior to 1965 or so).

All the Zil-Snaps I've ever seen have a rounded top making...

Re: Zildjian gong

I remember when we toured the Ludwig plant in the mid 70's they had a huge gong in their office area. Bill Ludwig Jr. tapped it a bit for us but didn't really play it. He said they only did that for...

Re: Zildjian gong

I think Zildjian imported those (although I could be wrong).

The one at the show yesterday was made like a cymbal but with a dished edge sort of like if you bent the flange of a china cymbal back...
