Re: 1966 Ludwig Pioneer question

I also just noticed that the tension screws are also chrome on the top rim.
This drum uses 2 different lengths of tension screws because the lugs are not centered on the shell.

I can’t imagine...

Hi All, looking for some info on my 1966 Ludwig Pioneer snare.

Although I have had this drum for over 40 years, I just noticed that the finish on the 2 rims is different.

The top rim is...

Mark, you are one of the guys I was hoping would critique my sale post. You have a great eye for detail, and I know you would have given me your best opinion. But, I must have presented them well...

Great points! Thank you for taking the time to post!

That is exactly the kind of commentary I am looking for.

I can edit the post to remove the Atlas reference regarding the hardware, I do not...

1976 Ludwig Big Beat shells

I am selling this very clean Blue sparkle set, and I realize that because I do not want to ship them, I am limiting my potential buyers, but I also am looking for some feedback from the experts on...

Re: Mid 70’s B/O Supra

Thanks! I thought for sure this drum would be covered in the typical acne, but I can’t believe how clean it turned out.

I really can’t find any flaws in the finish.

Mid 70’s B/O Supra

Hard to believe this is the same drum before and after.

Gentle cleaning with some Bar Keepers Friend, then a light coat of turtle wax.

It finally looks as good as it sounds!

Re: Painting Ludwig bass drum hoops

Thanks Larry, all I have done to these drums is clean them up. I do not want to have to list them as restored, or have to explain anything that might be considered hiding flaws.
The chipped areas...

Painting Ludwig bass drum hoops

I hope some of you experienced collectors can give me some advice here.

Does repainting the hoops adversely affect the resale value?

Is there a specific paint that would be “proper” to use?

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

Thanks Marko, I will give it a try.
Can I use the BKF on my Supra shell to clean up the grime? It is chrome over aluminum.

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

As I try to absorb as much of this great information as possible, I realize that I probably should have mentioned that I am going to use the exsisting heads that came with the drums.
They are...

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

Thanks Mark, that sounds like a good plan. I can imagine I will need to be patient and plan on many adjustments before I get the sound I want.

This set has the knob style mufflers, so I am...

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

I only bought this set of Hollywood/Big beat drums because when I saw the photo of them on a BST site, I thought I could cannibalize the rims and tension screws to complete my older set. The drums...

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

I agree, low to medium tension is where I usually tune (or tension) the batter heads without the reso heads. I get the impression that most people tension the bottom heads higher, so that is where I...

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

Thanks guys, all help is appreciated.

It sounds like I need to tune the top heads to my liking, then add the bottom heads and try to find the right tone that will compliment that sound. Sound...

Re: Scored these Ludwig’s on a local BST site.

Thanks Mark! Maybe I will try the Craigslist route. I am not a big fan of CL , so many scammers.

I have been trying to figure out which kit I have. What are the differences in the hardware?
