Re: CB 700 cymbals

Made in the late 70s in the Tosco factory which was eventually bought by Robert Zildjian in his moves to start Sabian.
Some are hit, some are misses. The hits are great. All seem to be made with...

Re: Flea market find (Zim-Gar)

Obviously the original owner was a fan of the better American hardware and mounting. So he swapped out the tom MOUNT on the ZIM GAR tom to use the Slinger mount coming out of the bass drum.
So no,...

Re: Getting some Torodor Drums :)

I believe these were made by Pearl.
and the shells will date them (you probably already know):

Thin with rerings through 1967ish.
Thick with no rings 1968ish and later.

This rule is general...

Re: For Sale: Ludwig snare drums

That black (Rocker?) snare was very tempting. In high school we had a black Rocker kit with the 6.5 deep snare........B/W badge, granitone interior. It sounded killer!
I think that snare is gone...

Re: FS: 3-Piece "Made In Japan" stencil kit, red glass glitter

GREAT Deal on a nice Star made kit. My guess is that it is the thin shell with rerings? Those sound great!

Re: Whitehall/Pearl tom mounts

Mike, I have a Dixie with battleship lugs - and I believe the same color as your 18. My research led me to conclude "Charcoal Pearl". IIRC this can be seen in the Pearl catalog.

Re: Picked up a Ruether Drum Kit

This kit has alot of character! I see you have a CX-500 Ride, the vinty 70s snare (a bit earlier than the rest of the kit) Stencil CB700 crash on the right (I believe Pearl made this as well),...

Re: Pearl MIJ cymbals and CB 700 MIJ

Those CX-300 HHs sound really good - but I wonder how much EQ has contributed to that (the recorders and mine).

I would highly recommend the green label CX-500 HHs. I have a demo of those (and...

Re: Whitehall/Pearl tom mounts

This is a great idea - but only if you have a short hex arm for that tom to mount to. Because the hex style tom mounting (arm) went into the drum (shell) through that mount & hole in the shell.

Re: Need some help to identify this vintage Pearl

My shells are not painted at all on the inside.

Your Brass snare is 1973 or later and worth considerably more than the steel one.

Your steel one is the one that came with the kit - being...

Re: Need some help to identify this vintage Pearl

This is from 1972-74 - these lugs are referred to as "battleship" lugs.

Your snare is most likely BRASS...and if so it is quite desirable.

You need to check it with a magnet....
no...

Re: Zim Gar snare - decent price?

I have a red sparkle snare like that. Really cool styling........

I would not pay $20 for it.

Don't get me wrong....I LOVE vintage MIJ.

I'm just saying that since I own one just like this,...

Kenwood nailed it, as usual.....high respects.

Hoshino - pros and cons. Build quality can be higher. Design can be attractive. Parts are much harder to find. A bit on the rare side - which for...
