I can't comment on bass or Tom heads but I've started using the classic fit coated ambassador on the 40s Krupa model radio king snare, and it fits very well indeed, the drum sounds a lot better now-...

I to am waiting for my shop to recieve a 14" ambassador, I'm in the UK and they said they would be here on 20th March and I'm still waiting. I don't think anywhere in UK has got them from remo yet.

I think most of them were, don't know about the 70s. I bought this on eBay a couple of years ago, is interesting, it was described as a radio king with solid shell, from the 60s ( serial number 4653)...
