Re: Identification: Ludwig snare Monroe

Classic maple first appeared around 1997 so this drums is probably a classic snare. It should have six plies. They also made a super classic with 4 plys that was discontinued in the early 90's...

Re: Bop/Jazz Kits

I'm starting to take my vintage sets out more now. I would have always done so but it was just easy to use my classic maple set as it looks and sounds great. Obviously the occasion has to warrant it...

Re: Bop/Jazz Kits

I wish the Gretsch Catalina sets were around when I was in high school (graduated in 1990). My school had a late 50's Slingerland bass and tom that looked like swiss cheese. It was missing the front...

Re: Rarest of the pearls

This is a newer classic maple set. The wrap was made for the 100th anniversary POP snares that guitar center sold and enough wrap was around to do several sets. Bun E has a beautiful set and I have...

Re: Ludwig set with mixed shells

I actually know someone with a mixed ply set. It's a 20,12,13,14 in bowling ball oyster blue. The badges all have close serial numbers, the wrap is a perfect match on all three drums and two of the...

Re: Approx value? LUDWIG Keystone 1959 Trans badge JAZZ"DownBeat"

I had this exact snare drum in blue sparkle. I wish I had kept it as it really sounded fantastic. Your going to love it!

Re: What did I just buy?!!! MIJ or Ludwig?!!

It definitely looks to be a 60's Ludwig. I would love to know what color is under that ridiculous wrap.

Absolutely beautiful! Love Ludwig drums from this time period.

Re: '66 Ludwig Club Date Bop Kit Value?

That looks like a beautiful set but I'm willing to bet that the bass drum is a 20". I have never seen an 18" club date bass drum and I have seen thousands of old Ludwig drums. Anything is possible...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Ludwig Drums

I have owned and played tons of vintage Ludwigs. I have had plenty of drums made after the Beatle boom and I probably only had one set that was bad. It's too bad because it was probably one of the...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

I have a love hate relationship with Gretsch drums. When I started playing in the summer of 1982, all of my hero's including my teacher played Ludwig. My first set was bought out of price and...

Re: Any Boston Fans?

Never mind what I wrote. I saw an article that says the family is auctioning his things off for charity and it's being held at the Hard Rock.

Re: Any Boston Fans?

Very cool! Judging by where the badges are places it looks like it is most likely a set from 1975. The seams are lifting, which is common but the silver sparkle looks to be in decent shape. Would be...

Re: This is very funny. I hope that the drummer was OK

I thought the same thing. Nobody seemed to be in much of a rush to help the poor guy. That thing was probably pretty heavy.

Re: Vintage Ludwig 3-ply, 12x18 Bop!

I had a 70's silver sparkle set with granitone interiors until this past year. I loved the set but just wasn't playing jazz around here as it has practically become extinct. I sold it to wood and...

Re: Luddy guys: what is this????

Honestly if this were me, I would probably rewrap the drum and put a P-85 on there. I don't think I would care for that strainer and snare set too much. Normally I hate to suggest this kind of thing...

Re: Slingerland, can you id this snare

I am certainly not a Slingerland expert but I thought in the 60's the shells were stamped with either a P or and M with the P meaning pearl wrap and the M meaning no wrap. Is it 6 lugs or eight? The...

Re: Wrap Fading 1964 Ludwig

Wow that looks pretty damn good I'd say. Yellowing of oyster black has never bothered me too much unless it looks dull. I have seen some sets where they lost a lot of that three dimensional pop. I...

Re: Identify Black Beauty

I think 2015 may have been the first year they stopped numbering badges. All I know is that I bought a brand new classic maple in 2012 and ll the B/O badges are numbered. I added a matching 14x14 in...

Re: Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl Downbeat

I think you scored one heck of a set. It pretty much matches Ringo's first downbeat set in that it has the correct badge placement(centered on the floor tom), the rail mount and the correct pre-1965...

Re: 1966 Ludwig Jazz Festival Snare - questions

You're going to find that the wrap goes into the shell and that this is indeed WMP. Nobody has been able to re-create that pattern like that and Ludwig only offered White Marine Pearl which was...

Re: Timeline for Ludwig Baseball Bat Muffler on toms

It seems that baseball bat mufflers first appeared sometime in later 1960 or sometime in early 1961. Prior to that Ludwig was using a small knob as the primary muffler adjustment. Around March/April...

Re: Vintage Ludwig Kit 3 ply? Help?

Ludwig was indeed using curved spurs in 1970. Those spurs came out around the middle of 1969 as there are a small handful of keystone badge sets with curved spurs.

Re: Vintage Ludwig Kit 3 ply? Help?

So re-reading the original post the numbers I see 888XXX would indicate early 1971. Would the other tom number be an 8 instead of a 6? that would make more sense to me and would also indicate an...
