Re: No hole in the head for me!

Typically my reso heads these days I buy for the bands I am in, and I get the artwork made with the front hole in mind ( though typically I prefer nothing bigger than a 4" hole " I prefer to port my...

Re: Early Tempro snare?

Not sure on the exact years it was used, but it was an earlier badge. $35 isn't a bad price, especially if it's in good shape. That isn't a common wrap and I do believe that Green Glass Drum has it...

Re: Dixon snare drum

If I'm not mistaken Pearl didn't even come up with the free floater, it was someone at Kaman ( CB ) I've seen ( not many ) but a couple with the CB badge and they go for silly money. Wouldn't be too...

Re: MIJ "Tower" with "error" rack tom

Funny enough they did do the badge upside down. However, those badges with the nails typically didn't have any glue along with the nail so it should be an easy pop off and remount the right way.

Re: Little Video Clip from Friday

The kit is a 1960's Tempro ( Pearl kit ) The snare is a 1960's Star that I re-wrapped in Orange Sparkle, though I do have a matching snare for the kit. 20" bass,12" tom, 16" floor tom. 14" A...

Re: Little Video Clip from Friday

Thanks Brother! Interestingly enough we went on after Kofi Baker's psychedelic Experience. So Him and his band watched 90% of out set before they had to head out.

Little Video Clip from Friday

So the blues band I play with has an " alter " ego called SRH ( Stevie Ray Hendrix ) and as you guessed it - all covers of mainly those greats. One of the guys shot a little clip from House Is A...

Re: Tama 6740 Bass Drum Pedal Question

That's exactly the purpose. The design in mind was so that you can finely adjust your pedal to strike where you like. I've seen that with a lot of pedals honestly. Personally never gave it much...

Re: A Little Rant & Rave

It's never pleasant when the people you started something with turn coat. I've been poorly fired from bands, and some that were trying other people behind my back. Even had the audacity to have them...

Re: Black / Gold Duco Finish

Haven't started the work yet. Gonna get in there with my snare one day this week. There will surely be plenty of photos.

Re: Black / Gold Duco Finish

John, that really is a turntable! I have a good ol' lazy susan that should work just fine ( older plastic one ) Thankfully at work we have a giant roll of wax paper and more gaffer tape than you can...

Re: Black / Gold Duco Finish

I have a snare shell I tried to do some years back and it never panned out. I think I'll use that as my tester since It's mine. Only last real question is this - Do I place some tape to avoid gold...

Re: Whoever made this cocktail drum had too many himself???

Personally I would do one of two things. If I could fine a bass drum and 13" tom from the same era for the right price I'd make a playable old era kit with concert toms, or possibly make them double...

Re: Identify this gong?

My first guesses off the bat would be Paiste. I personally don't know of any other cymbal makers in Germany, at least not during the time when there was an East / West Germany. I know Meinl was...

Re: Whoever made this cocktail drum had too many himself???

I want it just because of how unique it is. Even if it didn't sound good, to me those are still easily restorable. Wrap looks good and aside the few obvious extra holes, the shells look in good shape.

Re: Timpanello

I've never seen one in person. But it seems that when the Roto Toms first came out they had numerous options. Different stands, half and whole shells you could add, rapid tuning pitch pedal....

Black / Gold Duco Finish

I have a friend who has been asking me to restore a Slingerland bass drum for him. The kit was Black / Gold Duco finish. Now I know the obvious to do the black and then gold on top, but was wondering...

Re: Pearl drum set year

I see a grey interior on one of the toms. To my knowledge that was an MIJ thing, not a MIT one. The lugs do look pearl on the snare and the other drums. Some good interior shots might help.

Re: Requesting Opinions on Snare Colors

I like the Grover finish a lot better. It's not as jumpy behind the kit. ( meaning the Mapex pops more ) And I do believe that is the Mapex version of a natural finish. As far as hearing back from...

This is my take, and I could be way off. To me it seems there are three ditinct buying groups. Those who have and want to spend top dollar and buy new from DW,Ludwig,Craviatto, etc... In the same...

Re: Nice Surprise!

Very good tip there. Start with a small area and see what the results are. Acetone is also good and will work. Just make sure you are in a ventilated area as with using any chemical.

Re: Nice Surprise!

I honestly don't think it'll hurt nickel, engraving or even the laminate. I think for it to really get into those it would need to sit for an extended period of time. Typically Klean Strip is able to...

Re: Nice Surprise!

I agree. I personally go with Klean Strip. Strongest stripper on the market ( that I've ever found ) and works ultra fast and can wiped off. This is one you wanna wear gloves and not get on your...

Re: Seeking Opinion on Rewrapping Drums

This is a valid point. I did buy a Leedy kit from the 50s', 18" bass, 12" tom, 14" floor finished in the Fiesta pearl wrap. Now I could have re-wrapped as there were a few issues. But I chose not to...
