Re: This is the Display Your Sonor Drums Thread

The logo does not extend to the edge on these (picture 1). There are no date stamps anyway, so that would have just been frustrating if there were the badge you were seeking. I did recently get...

Re: This is the Display Your Sonor Drums Thread

This San Francisco Model in Gold Ripple Multi-Brilliant finish (circa late 60s/early 70s) has an added matching snare to go with the chrome one it had when I bought it. It is almost complete after...

Re: Gretsch "Drop G"

Thanks for the kind words. I agree that my work brings us a lot closer to telling the accurate story. However, the level of precision that some people attribute to my guide and all of the online...

Re: Gretsch "Drop G"

Please be careful when citing the Gretsch Book about serial numbers. The information in there comes from my work with serial number based dating. Remember that the range of serial numbers is an...

Re: 60's Ludwig Kits - sequential serial numbers?

I realize that your post is sarcastic, but would like to point out that my study involved Ludwig drums, not W&A. Whatever conclusions one draws from my paper are not necessarily applicable to other...

Re: 60's Ludwig Kits - sequential serial numbers?

I tried to gather actual information from actual sets so that there was a foundation upon which to base the analysis. I do not know what the "right" number is but I would suggest that based upon the...

Re: 60's Ludwig Kits - sequential serial numbers?

I did a study on the serial number ranges seen in "born together" drum sets. It is posted at my website https://gretschdrum.netfirms.com/other-projects.html (scroll down to the second topic listed...

Re: Ludwig blue/olive non serial # badge question.

Wow, I step away from the computer for a day and miss a whole bunch of posts.

I was not suggesting that the Vistas currently on eBay are not genuine. Sorry for confusing the issue. I am...

A link to a nice article regarding fake Vistalites and the reproduction badge often seen on them.

Re: Ludwig blue/olive non serial # badge question.

A couple of questions/comments -
* The highest serial number I have before the break in serial numbers is 1371641. How many drums do you have recorded above that and below your 1396XXX example? ...

Re: Ludwig blue/olive non serial # badge question.

I agree. The first version of the B/O badge did not have a circle R on it. These are seen with drums date stamped in the 1970-71 time period, both with and without serial numbers.

The circle R...

Re: Ludwig blue/olive non serial # badge question.

One other common justification for a 1976 date estimate is that Rob Cook's original Ludwig dating chart showed a large range of serial numbers associated with that year. That could factor in on...

Re: Ludwig blue/olive non serial # badge question.

That is a very clean looking drum.

I have recorded at least 35 instances of drums with no serial numbers on the version of the badge with the "circle R" trademark symbol. None of these was...

Re: RIP Hal Blaine

I went to the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix on Monday and saw one of Hal's sets displayed. It was listed as being from 1962, but the serial numbers I read indicated that most drums were from...

Re: SSB1 Gretsch

I would place your drums more in the 1971 +/- time frame. The basis for that date is explained in the book. Please let me know what you think of it and send more information about your drums to me...

Re: Slingerland/ Gretsch snares

The Gretsch was a 1980s chrome over brass model. It originally had a Lightning throw, probably a fishtail butt and chrome lugs and hoops.

Re: 1948-52 WFL Aqua Sparkle

I was low on 22" heads, so I just grabbed what I could to put the set together once I cleaned it. I will get a suitable resonant side head soon.
