Re: 1941 Swing Sensation "Top Hat and Cane" Original

Donn Bennett sells more Top Hat drums than anyone.
He'd be the guy to contact, especially since he's "in the neighborhood".

Re: Any ideas on year range of this Ludwig snare

The drum pictured is a hard to find size, but, condition is everything.
Your drum has dents and scratches and missing parts.
It's not worth thousands of dollars, possibly not worth hundreds....

Re: Vintage Drum Shows

For many years all us dealers at the Chicago Show were encouraged to bring display items and rarities to help educate buyers and show rare stuff to the public. That's part of the drum show. Sorry you...

Re: Gotta Love the International Listings

In the late 70's we had lyrics translated from English to Japanese, then translated back to English, for a domestic Japan release.
"Don't be a sheep and follow the flock" turned into "Don't be a...

Re: What do you think?

Couple hundred bucks for the bass drum imo.
The tom, I don't know, there's not a lot you can do with an 11" tom.....
And, matching the yellowed pearl with other drums would be quite a chore?

Re: a little help deciding on a Ludwig ... please

There's not a whole lot of differences between the two sets? What's your favorite color, silver or blue?

Re: Low Volume Cymbals-Why are the prices so high?

My Gen-16s, which I use for practice, play great. Just like normal cymbals, (but actually I can play a bit faster on the Gen-16's).
I've had no "hand issues" with them either.
As for the price,...

Re: Ludwig Pink Oyster pearl?

KO, I think we're on the same page.
IMO: The pink oyster everyone knows and digs these days is the pink oyster they see, half faded out.
Just like the re-issue pink oyster from 2009.
As for...

Re: Ludwig Pink Oyster pearl?

Ludwig's 2009 OPP wrap was made from a photo of the wrap on an OPP Downbeat snare drum given to Todd Trent from WFL2.

Re: Ludwig Sparkling Green Pearl

Green sparkle is very collectible these days. I think there's a few reasons you don't see much.
Green sparkle didn't sell a lot.
Most green sparkle from back in the day has fade issues...the...

Re: Psychedelic Red snares on ebay

All psychedelic red snare drums are rare.
Original psych red Jazz Festival drums in nice condition go for 4K and up.
6 lug Pioneer models are probably rarer.
I know the guy selling the 6 lugger...

Re: Just curious...what are these snares?

Main selling point was that snares covered the entire head and were raised and lowered on both sides, as well as individually tunable snare wires.

Re: Do you ever feel overwhelmed with all your gear?

Cull the herd?
Get rid of the orphans.
Get rid of the duplicates.
Sets must be born together, or if not born together, used for paying gigs.
Keep a couple or three sets of hardware, sell the...

Of course I'm not a "jazz drummer", but I play the same gear as many "jazz drummers".
I play Promark hickory sticks with acorn tips. Average weight of 52 grams, 16 inches in length.
They're...

Re: Interesting Celebrity-Owned Ludwigs on Craigslist

FYI Mick cleaned out his drum stash at Third Encore in Burbank back in the early 90's. He was selling all his old kits for not a lot of money. He blew it all out in a day! He had bass drums from 28"...

Re: Skyrocketing Prices or Just Me?

Citrus Mod, Mod Orange, Psychedelic Red, all are never cheap on Reverb, even with issues......If one takes the time to network with other collectors, prices are much lower than Reverb.
