Re: ear plugs

Allright, sorry for an off-topic post.

Actually, not a re-enactment, to be precise, but a LARP (Live Action Role Playing), sorta like theatre with 50 actors and no audience (you play for yourself...

Re: Old Man Rant: Something I hope never happens to drums.

That's exactly what I like about used stuff in general.

I like patina and wear, but only when I or somebody else caused it by using the item for some time.
First, when it's new, I enjoy the...

What am I getting?

Saw this listed as a "19" Zildjian ride" for a very good price, so, although I'm on a lookout for a larger ride, I pulled the trigger, thinking that I can always re-sell it.
What intriguied me also...

Re: Ancient Kauri shell

I'd go for a priest rather than a medium.

It's a beautiful and interesting shell you got here. I'm curious how it will sound.

Re: Kit ID?

The snare is a 1990s/2000s Indonesia-made Yamaha. Actually a very nice drum, I have it and love the sound.
As for the kit, I have no idea. Looks European to me, but the tom mount is American style,...

Re: Djembes Are Taking Over!

My very first drum was a djembe. It's a nice thing, very versatile and easy to play. These days, however, if I wanted something portable, I'd go for a cajon.

Re: ear plugs

I use Etymotic plugs. They are cheap and work great - they don't so much muffle the noise, rather they just turn it down whilst retaining all the tonal qualities (they just take a bit of the hiss...

Re: MIJ "Tower" with "error" rack tom

Nice little kit! I agree with you on the badge. After all, it's the things like that that make vintage drums so nice and generally make stuff really "ours," because unique.

Re: But is it selling?

I think that lots of people thought already in the 1980s that live music will die out because of electronics.
So far, it didn't.
I'm a millenial. I know a bunch of people who do electronic music or...

Re: Is this a 1930s custom made A Zildjian?

The irregularities in size and centering etc. seem to me to be too small to be anything else than simple "mistakes" in the not-so-precise manufacturing process of that era.
I'm just guessing,...

Re: PureSound problems??

I have one and I wasn't that impressed by it in comparison with wires I own, cheap Gibraltar ones. Actually, I had bigger trouble making it sound the way I wanted than those. But maybe I chose the...

Re: Rack tom choke issue

I've had a good experience with mounting choked toms on a cymbal stand. Doesn't have that vintage look, but the resonance is good.
