Istanbul K Zildjian 13" hats - Old 2B stamp

Here's a matched pair of Old 2B stamp Istanbul K 13" hats. They're in excellent shape, with nicely visible signatures and no cracks or keyholing. The stamp dates them to 1949-1950. The weights are...

Re: Istanbul K 13" hats

Thanks so much for this very detailed feedback! I found your site on Google this morning and was very impressed--the stamp tool took me from knowing nothing about K stamps to knowing exactly which...

Re: Istanbul K 13" hats

Here's what I've found after some quick Googling: based on this guide (http://robscott.net/cymbals/k-istanbul/) and this guide (http://black.net.nz/old-k/old-k-2B.html), it looks like these are Old...

Re: Istanbul K 13" hats

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely wouldn't polish them myself. That's about 60 years of nice patina there. I just meant to clarify that the grimy spot on one of the cymbals would come off if a buyer really...

Istanbul K 13" hats

Can anyone tell me anything about this pair of 13" Istanbul K hats? I've had them in my cymbal bag for about 25 years and have never found a use for them. (I bought my vintage round badge kit in the...

Re: My 1st Gretsch Round Badge kit!

Gorgeous! Everything looks kosher to me. I'd guess that these are late 50s or early 60s. Gretsch moved to diamond plate floor tom legs and die-cast rims around that time. I believe they started...

Re: Ludwig Smorgasborg Project Kit

Fantastic! That's a one-of-a-kind drum kit, and a wonderful project to share with your daughter. Well done.

Re: Remo Classic Fit ...

The Classic Fit Fiberskyn Diplomats finally arrived today! I've just put them onto the batter sides of my 13" and 16" 3-ply round badges. I was surprised to find that they were still a tight fit—I...

Re: Remo Classic Fit ...

I've just ordered a set of Classic Fit Fiberskyn Diplomats for my 3-ply Gretsch toms. Really looking forward to seeing whether these new heads open up the tone. I'll report back when the heads arrive...

Re: Bass Drum Logo Removal

Just came across this old thread. FWIW, Drum Factory Direct sells plain heads with no logos: https://www.drumfactorydirect.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=15_1121

Another solution is to cut a...

Re: 1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates in BDP

Hee! Funny thing about that photo: I was grinning ear to ear throughout the whole gig, and then they snapped this one pic... :D

Re: 1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates in BDP

Thanks! The bass and 12" tom were originally a solid red lacquer. No duco. The floor tom was a blue sparkle that had some serious fade by the time I got it, so I didn't feel too badly about...

1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates in BDP

Long time no post! After a long dry spell (during which I gave the drums a break and started learning guitar and mandolin--lots of fun to be had there), I finally put the band back together and took...

Re: Project: Gretsch Mid 60's Round Badge

Would Novus work on satin flame? I'd be concerned that it would damage that kind of finish.

Re: Mitch Mitchell Set up

I don't suppose that first show was at Winterland in '68, was it? I have a live album culled from those gigs, and Jack Casady is on there.

Re: club date tuning

I love my Clubbies. They tune up so easily. I just dial them in to the lowest tone that they'll resonate on, and they sing for me. One felt strip on the bass is all she needs. Great drums.

Re: Ludwig Vistalites

I had a set for a few years and loved them. The floor tom (which was actually a "Star" FT which someone had refitted with Ludwig lugs) was the warmest, most resonant FT I've ever played. I think they...

Re: Premier 1959 faded wrap

I've never seen this wrap in person, but the stock turquoise glitter at drummaker.com looks like it might be a pretty good match:

Re: What's so great about Speed King pedals?

I had a DW5000 for years. It was supposed to be the best pedal on the market. The beater flew off mid-song at a gig. I also had a high-end Pearl pedal. The cam came loose during soundcheck, and I...

Re: Ludwig Question - Early 1960s vs early 1970s

The Club Date suggestion is a great one. Clubbies are portable, they sound beautiful, they have a cool vintage vibe, and--here's an advantage I hadn't thought of until I got mine--the single-lug...

Re: Glitter or Sparkle?

I ordered both glitter and sparkle when considering a rewrap project. To my eyes, there was a huge difference. The glass glitter wraps reflected much more light, and sparkled like mad. The sparkles...

Re: 60's Ludwig silver sparkle questions...

Nice find!

I've got a 20" Ludwig bass hoop from 1966 if you still need one. Mine has a red sparkle inlay that someone painted over with black paint; you can remove the inlay and replace with...
