Re: mystery old avedis cymbal

Finally found the thread. The link starts at page 2 which is where the A Zildjian trademark comes up. Prior to that it is about K Zildjian Istanbul cymbals. That is of course nice reading as well.

Re: Paiste 602 Germany???

We've come a long way since 2013. To answer the original question, yes there are Formula 602 cymbals which say Made in Germany. These show two distinct versions of the trademark stamp called Mixed...

Re: mystery old avedis cymbal

Thanks for the diameter and weight. Yes it does look like two dots after the A in that image. You have also picked up a few more details with this lighting. For example I can see a second MADE below...

Re: Very Thin Old Avedis

Just a quick update. I've now got a 22" Hollow Block (aka Large Stamp Type 1) in my possession which has a 5.5" bell. It is ride weight (2838g) and not a crash or crash ride. So the 5.5" bell die...

Re: mystery old avedis cymbal

I've got a photo collection of a few hundred pre Trans stamp cymbals and I can go through to look for similar styles of hammering and lathing. It would help to know the diameter and the weight of...

Re: Zildjian Clone? Zildjian K? What is this?

I haven't yet done any specific analysis of the meager data I've got for those very old ones, but in general Italian cymbals don't get the same price premium that K Zildjian Istanbul cymbals do. One...

Re: Zildjian Clone? Zildjian K? What is this?

I've reviewed drum catalogs from 1930 onwards and compiled an overview. The choice of 1930 was because this review started out with a focus on Avedis Zildjian history (and Avedis Zildjian value lines...

There is also a pair of cymbals for sale here

Re: Zildjian Clone? Zildjian K? What is this?

Z.Fengjian & Cie. From my photo reference collection. Believed to be yet another Italian Ersatz K as we discussed recently in another thread:

Just following on from the mystery cymbal discussion

I can see the lathing rings on those. And if you measure the diameter accurately they...

Re: Just Ordered Mystery Cymbals...any Guesses?

Very unlikely story. Once again, the diameter (undersized 20") is the standard for cymbals from Italy. There isn't anything unusual to explain! A 22" ride which is cut down (and not also reshaped)...

Re: Just Ordered Mystery Cymbals...any Guesses?

I've had one CB-700 piece to analyze and the results say Brass (CuZn36). That one was Tosco made and this fits with other information that Tosco made most if not all of the CB-700 cymbals. Tosco...

Re: 1960s Zildjian New Beat Top - Thin/Dark

My favorite home made pairing is two 60s trademarked A Zildjian cymbals which are 732g over 1120g. That's at the lighter end of the New Beat range, but I like them. I sold two pairs of heavier ones...

Sorry about the brevity of my answer. I was having a strange network problem which has kept me from getting to VDF for many days. I've finally narrowed it down to the Apple Airport. I switched back...

Re: 1950s Zildjian crash or ride or crash/ride.

At that weight and diameter and production era (late 50s) the likely models are Bounce, Medium Ride (which usually have model ink saying Medium), or maybe Bop or Dance. Probably not a Ping at that...

Re: EAK or IAK?

The top is an IAK (based on the lathing style) and the bottom is from the Z Series. These were released in 1987 in 13" diameter, and the 14" diameter in 1988. I wasn't sure when I wrote up my page

Re: Has Maxwell stopped dealing in cymbals?

The answer is on the main page. They have decamped to Reverb and the categories on the left are in the process of being de-implemented.
