Re: Vistalites with long, high tension lugs?

From this one Youtube expert on Ludwigs (and specifically Vistalites) I think the easiest way to tell if it's an original 1970s Ludwig-produced shell, or a reissue Ludwig from the last 15 years, is...

Re: My Vistalite journey (TAKE TWO)

Decided to do some reconfiguring a couple of days ago...took out the bass drum tom holder again (it doesn't lock into place very well) and put the 12 inch tom on a mount attached to a crash cymbal...

Re: Drummers that also are lead vocal.

I brought up Keith Moon earlier in the thread but I rediscovered this charming composition of his a few days ago, The Who's "Girl's Eyes":

Girl's Eyes - The Who - YouTube

Best part: a line ONLY...

Re: 1976 5x14 Ludwig clear Vistalite

Tried it out with the Vistalite kit today and did a lot of comparing between my amber Vistalite snare with the clear Vintage Emperor head and this clear Vistalite snare running a not-so-new coated...

Re: 1976 5x14 Ludwig clear Vistalite snare

More pics!

I had a finicky time with the sticker on the P-85 - it was a bit loose in a corner, so I tried supergluing it back onto the throwoff...and the superglue was painful to clean up. I got...

Cool 1976 5x14 Ludwig clear Vistalite

An Ebay find, this pristine specimen is to be added to the drumset at the congregation I've been with since 2014, First Filipino-American United Church of Christ in San Bruno, California. I had...

Re: Drummers that also are lead vocal.

Keith Moon sometimes got to do lead vocals for The Who whenever they needed to be goofy or plain out there!

The Who - I Need You - YouTube
THE WHO - 1965 - "Barbara...

Re: Mid 70's Ludwig 5X14 Amber Vistalite

I brought the Vistalite snare to church today (as I had last week at the end of rehearsal as well) and both me and the other drummer really liked the sound we got with one of those Remo muting rings...

Re: My Vistalite journey (TAKE TWO)

Yikes!

My Vistalite snare has a crack that has been fixed (as noted in earlier post), my two double-headed toms both seem to have not-so-perfectly-clear interiors that look almost "frosted" for...

Re: My Vistalite journey (TAKE TWO)

Aw! Glad you were able to get Vistalites later on though so there's at least a happy postscript to that saga Stage Band2

Did you ever record the serial numbers for your original set? Maybe those...

Not a problem! That helps clarify a lot of things and it really is helpful (having lurked here for a long time) to know that the drum images at this place are permanently hosted Bowing

Re: My Vistalite journey (TAKE TWO)

Thanks!

My dad's recovery from what was a life-threatening stroke has taken a while and he has made a lot of progress, though it is still very much a long process - he retired as a result of it...

Re: My Vistalite journey (TAKE TWO)

The full kit. I liked the fat, shell-emphasized tone of my snare when I first used it, though I have since tightened up the bottom head a bit more to bring out the snares themselves a little. It's...

Re: My Vistalite journey (TAKE TWO)

By 2017, I had made a few changes to the kit. I went with vintage clear Emperors for everything both for looks and to really liven up the tone - very satisfying tonal quality, that classic 1970s...

Re: My Vistalite journey (TAKE TWO)

In 2015, a month before my dad got sick, I saw a Craigslist ad for $150 for a Vistalite clear bass drum in Petaluma. Needless to say I made sure to drive out there to get it! I recall that my...

Re: One of a Kind Custom Vistalite score on Ebay - Coliseum Conversion Candidate?

This makes me wonder if the 14x10 clear Vistalite tom I'm using as a floor tom is a one-off/custom order of some sort, it's not your typical tom size but I like it a lot!

Cool Re: Mid 70's Ludwig 5X14 Amber Vistalite

Thanks! I've been a Nikon DSLR user since 2009 and I'm a sucker for manual focus lenses as old as my Vistalites are! The main shot in this sequence was with my Nikkor-S 50/1.4, the snare head text...

Re: Mid-1970s 5x14 Amber Ludwig Vistalite snare

Thanks! As soon as it popped up at that price on CL I knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I couldn't miss.

With the old-school snare wire size I really feel like this drum's tone...
