Re: Slingerland Black Beauty on eBay

At that price, I would hope it finds a caring home!

Personally, I'd put it under glass and just look at it....

Re: Vintage Ludwig Kit 3 ply? Help?

OP,

I think it's safe to assume those are all 3-ply shells.....But be aware that SOME of the shells (actually many) from that era were NOT maple/poplar/mahogany....but were, in fact, newer...

Re: 1941 Ludwig and Ludwig

Looks pretty clean. I honestly can't tell if the finish is original or not....but if it is, then just a slightly damp cloth should be fine for maintenance.

I wouldn't change the patina of the...

Re: for you Ludwig 3ply owners- heads and tuning

Coated Dilomats are what I prefer on my 3-ply Ludwig drums. I also use coated Ambassadors on bass drums and other drums, too, occasionally. For one thing, Ambassadors are readily available in most...

Re: Tip for extra height adjustment on Ludwig Rail Mounts

Re: Price check 1966 ludwig black oyster snare

I tapped on a few Jazz Fests in my time.....sounded okay but never felt right to me. The Pioneers, on the other hand, sounded great and felt great to me. I have a gold sparkle 1964 (red muffler felt)...

Re: Can anyone identify this please?

Yeah the Acrolite is (in my opinion) the best sounding snare drum there is. It's the Supraphonic's lugly, little brother! ;) Plus, Acrolites can take the abuse of regular gigging just fine. I love...

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

Re: Is there such a thing as an 18" Downbeat Bass Drum?

Ludwig didn't foresee a collector's market in their future, at the time they were making catalogs and selling those drums. Remember, in those days, the drums weren't "vintage" drums! They were...

Re: Is there such a thing as an 18" Downbeat Bass Drum?

This is why it is important to remember, we are talking about the names of things given in the Ludwig catalogs. As collectors, we have to establish some form of reference from which to gauge what we...

Re: Price check on 18” Gretsch SSB bass drum

Yeah, I'd probably pay that for them just to resell them for more money (after I recorded with them, maybe!) ;).

And I always get nervous around those Rogers collets -whether they are the...
