What are we looking at here?

This is the original drummer in the Muddy Waters band, Elga Edmonds (a/k/a Elgin Evans) c. early '50s. Is that a '40s Ludwig snare? Anyone want to take a guess at the bass drum? Whatever it is,...

Re: Premier Super Ace snare wire restoration

Bravo! Great idea, perfect execution, and great explanation and photos. This type of post is exactly why I love this forum.

BTW, that is one cool snare drum - I love the throw-off, with the...

Re: How old is this WFL SPeed King pedal?

Thanks Dan, very interesting. "My" pedal (it actually belongs to a friend, but I'll claim it as mine for the purposes of this discussion!) looks like it shares some parts with yours. The entire...

Re: How old is this WFL SPeed King pedal?

Yes, the heel plate operates just like later Speed Kings. In fact, there's one interesting design element in this WFL that isn't in the later ones: the later ones just have a screw that goes through...

Re: Ludwig Silver Sparkle price

I had a similar 1971 Ludwig set in silver sparkle that I sold a few months ago for $625 on Craiglist. Yours are a little older, and the keystone badges make them more desirable; I also didn't include...

How old is this WFL SPeed King pedal?

I've never seen another one like it. It doesn't have a single part in common with a "modern" (i.e., post 1950-ish) Speed King as far as I can tell - it looks like a predecessor to the later classic...

Re: oxidation/rust on rims

Tony,
Please keep us updated on this. I agree - that price differential seems way too wide for both quotes to be for the same thing. If the $150 quote is correct, then as you say, Milwaukee is...

Re: oxidation/rust on rims

Kevins's advice is right on. I'd add to that: re-chroming previously rusted / oxidized hardware is very expensive. The expense comes mainly from the detailed and laborious process of preparing the...

Re: 1948-1952? Ludwig, not sure of year

Yes, the close up of the badge makes it pretty obvious that the drum it's on has been stripped and sanded down to a natural finish. I.e., the edges of the badge and the grommet are sanded down...

Re: Fake Old K's

I know very little about Zildjian cymbals, but even to me the cymbal in that photo screams "forgery". I mean, really - ZILOJIAN? Wouldn't Zildjian have had a permanent stamper, as opposed to one...

Re: New project: 12" X 15" Club Date FT

Finally finished this rehab project, so I thought I'd post a photo of the results. I've actually had everything I needed for a while, and just needed to reassemble it, but this had fallen to the...

Re: 50s WFL club date

Yes, a 12" X 15" would actually be the correct FT for at least some '50s Club Date kits:

Re: My new Slingerlands

A couple more shots.

I really like the compactness of this set. I haven't played them yet - the snare needs a new snare head (all the heads are still original, BTW), but if these sound as good as...

Re: My new Slingerlands

I've only given it a quick once-over, but I don't see any brand name stamped or inked into the cymbal at all. It's possible it got sanded off - whoever did this really seemed bent on destoryiing it....

My new Slingerlands

I just picked up a set of older Slingerlands for a reasonable price. I don't know much about Slingerland, but I stumbled across them on CL, they looked cool and were priced reasonably, so I jumped...

Re: Ludwig Snare, what is it?

At a glance, that's what I thought too, but if you look closely at the badge, it says "Chicago" - no mention of Monroe.

From elsewhere on this fine site, a picture of the same badge, identifying...

Re: Which brand is my floor tom?

That's what happens when you use a bottomless floor tom as a carry-all for cymbals, hardware, and smaller drums. :) I'd bet money that the inside of the bass drum from this kit (wherever it is) is...

Re: 1971 Ludwig "Big Beat" / Hollywood" set

Sold. They went for $625, in case anyone is interested in using these drums for a valuation reference.

1971 Ludwig "Big Beat" / Hollywood" set

I'm thinking of letting these go to a good home. Before I post them on eBay or Craigslist, I thought I'd mention them here to see if anyone is interested.

They're not mint, but they're a pretty...

Yes, I saw the tag on the BD too. But any idea of the vintage? Or the snare?

What is Elvis playing?

I'm guessing, based on the era, this would be DJ Fontana's set (or part of it). Can anyone ID the drums?

Re: Wfl kit It's a nice one!!!

It's listed as gold sparkle, but isn't it actually just aged silver sparkle?

Either way though, nice kit.

Re: Anyone know what these are?

Ah ha...there's the rub, as they say. These drums will probably sound great without much work at all. Unless there's some structural problem (destroyed bearing edges, cracked shells, etc.) that...

Re: Anyone know what these are?

Definitely a WFL or Ludwig Club Date set. I'm guessing a little older than some of the others have, probably mid 1950s, based on the 12" X 15" floor tom (which was changed to a 14" X 14" sometime...
