Forgot to ask, what method did you use to remove the existing wrap? Were there any issues with removing any of the outer ply as well? Was there glue residue that you had to deal with?

My guess is that they are two different wraps. As you noted, the more "silver" wrap is offered by Sam and is called "Silver & Black Onyx Pearl. Sam also offers the more traditional version...

The pictured drum started life as a mid-80's Ludwig L-600, which was wrapped in chromed metal that had seen better days! Incredibly tough to remove, but I prevailed! It's now wrapped in Bum Wrap's...

Since this Fullerton mount is cast, it would be easy to grind it to a different shape, which is what was done to it! Bottom line is that mount is NOT original to the bass drum!
