Re: Anyone else get disheartened at all the greed in the vintage drum market?

Perhaps we're talking about the difference between hobbyist and dealer pricing. My belief is that professional sellers typically price their goods in order to stay in business. If they can't make...

Re: Anyone else get disheartened at all the greed in the vintage drum market?

Sellers with high prices bring out more sellers and products to the market.

Re: Ludwig Gig

Those look good on stage. Classic Maples sound great behind the kit, but I've found that they sound even better to the audience. 6 ply Ludwigs are like that too in my opinion.

Re: Advice on Mics and Set-up

I like Audix mics for everything but the kick. A seller on ebay, 'anthem-audio', usually has good prices. I believe he's located in the Northwest. Many of the Audix mics are made in Oregon.

For...

Re: Ludwig 75th Anniversary "Eagle" Kit for Sale on Ebay-Big Beat Configuration

Clubdate64 has the dealer's catalog for this year. From looking at one page he posted, the list price for a 5 piece kit was about $2k, which would be about $5k today. I wonder if the catalog has...

Re: Ludwig 75th Anniversary "Eagle" Kit for Sale on Ebay-Big Beat Configuration

If it sells for the price it's at now it would be a steal. The snare drum should be worth the bulk of the price (as of now) and the toms are standard sized.
I don't understand the lack of print...

Re: SONOR 8 pc Phonic Series Rosewood in/out 1975 Centennial RARE & EXCELLENT!

Dang, that would make things more difficult for a seller of rosewood.

Re: SONOR 8 pc Phonic Series Rosewood in/out 1975 Centennial RARE & EXCELLENT!

I hear ya. It's one thing to discuss prices as we are now, and it's another thing for a buyer to outright insult the seller and probably not a good way to negotiate.

Though not quite the...

Re: SONOR 8 pc Phonic Series Rosewood in/out 1975 Centennial RARE & EXCELLENT!

I like reading the freakout posts. They're hilarious. They sound like they're gonna cry if you don't split up the kit.

Regarding the export fees, etc- hopefully a foreign buyer would go...

Re: Drum Wrap

That wrap is about 9 mil thick. According to Walopus' website, the typical drum wrap is ~20 to 35 mil thick.

Ludwig-Slingerland Legal Briefs on ebay

I thought this interesting- apparently, one of the lawsuits between the Chicago companies was over mylar heads and patent infringement. The lawsuit was filed by Ludwig against the Solar Musical...

Re: What bonding material is used to wrap?

I don't know what Gretsch used, but for what it's worth, I saw a video where Ms. Ann Ross used the 3M 90 spray adhesive. She's wrapped Ludwig's drums since 1986.
Now, she wraps Ludwigs with the...

Re: Ludwig Preserial Chrome on Brass Snare rechrome?

That's a very nice drum. I'd think a re-chrome would hurt the value by a lot.

Are there weld marks on the inside of the hoops? I have a '69 402 with welded hoops, but the weld is only visible...

Re: Ludwig Snare ID Help...

Ebay is what I use for pricing. I think the values given on this site tend to be from a buyer's perspective.

Re: Soliciting opinions on lug/hardware finishes........

I believe DFD sells satin finish hardware too. Also, it might depend on how the badges looked with the respective hardware.
Maybe you could try out a few different pieces before buying hardware...

Re: Original Tone Controls -- Simply Style over Substance?

I've used them on snares for particular songs and a few times on larger floor toms when recording demos. I don't use gels or anything else.

Re: Ludwig Snare Id Help...

Based on the serial, I'd guess 83-84. The strainer doesn't appear to be original to the drum, or at least I've never seen that strainer on a US made Ludwig.

Re: Why Do Ludwig Drums Sound So Good

I always knew about Ludwig's snares, but playing their kicks and toms are what sold me- and that was on a late 70s 6-ply kit. Easy to tune, or at least it was hard to make them sound bad.

Re: Is Sabian Serious with this new logo?

I just heard that Drum Center of Portsmouth is offering to remove the new Sabian logos from sold cymbals if the customer requests it.

Re: New Ludwig Stuff for NAMM 2019

That's an interesting question. I think Ludwig would have survived because they focused on supplying schools, but I'm thankful that Ringo chose wisely back in the day.

With regard to their...

Re: Is Sabian Serious was this new logo?

That does look bad and looks like something a kid would doodle/sketch in class. Doesn't look very professional or esteemed.
