Re: Ludwig 1930's Rope Tension Drum ?

My thought is that the drum was probably made specifically for the army and that's why it's not in the old catalogs....? In other words, it wasn't offered to the public. I dunno...

Re: Round Badge Gretsch Without A Muffler

I think those snare beds were cut by Ray Charles.

Re: Slingerland Stage Band

We would need to see pictures in order to make any kind of evaluation.

Re: Ringo's Hello, Goodbye mini Kit

Wow! I love these mini kits!

I had no idea these existed and I also had never noticed the mini kit from Ringo's Sgt. Pepper's era special appearance, either. So thanks to all for the education!

Re: Identify This Double Kick Pedal

Opinions? The fact that there is no branding anywhere suggests that it's a generic something-or-other probably made in an overseas factory. I dunno...Pearl subsidiary, maybe? *shrugs*

Re: A cry for help-Can NOT tune 80s Tama superstar 8x14 Birch

Jeeez! I remember the "Throwoff Wars" of the early 2000's -when everyone was focusing a lot of energy on designing a "better" throw off. It was the Nickel Drumworks one that started it....and then,...

Re: Zildjian 30" ride cymbal

My cousin had one...It was crazy big and looked really out of place on a drum set. I asked him about it after years and years and he said that he pawned it for some quick cash. I think these things...

Re: What Ludwig Kit Do I Have?

The initial post had nothing to do with how the drums sound, as far as I understood. The question had to do with whether or not the assemblage of drums in question was a named configuration or not....

Re: question on Ludwig Standard

I wish I could see that set again. It was back in the mid 70's and he traded them in for a brand new Blue Vistalite kit. I haven't kept in touch with him. I vaguely remember the interiors of that...

Re: question on Ludwig Standard

This. Standards have been known to sport Classic lugs. A friend of mine had Ruby Strata kit with Classic lugs.

Re: What Ludwig Kit Do I Have?

Fair enough. Thanks for the clarification. Well....I don't know what your assemblage of drums started out as. I don't know of a named configuration that started out with a virgin bass drum...

Re: What Ludwig Kit Do I Have?

There is no name for your shell pack. It wasn't a company-named configuration as it is. If it was rewrapped, then the 22" likely isn't a virgin from the factory and I would guess that a good look at...

Re: Just about as thin as a 22" ever gets

Hey Mark...It's not me or my cymbal. It's just a random video that I found on YouTube. I was researching the Dream Bliss line awhile back for a friend of mine who was getting his first kit. There are...

Re: Another eBay Bargain

When a single drum is isolated from everything else and looked at under a microscope (so to speak) then there will be differences. But by its very design and nature, the snare drum is a staccato...

Re: Another eBay Bargain

Well, in all honesty, I like simple snare drums, too. Practically speaking, there's really no reason to want all the "stuff" that a Gladstone snare drum is capable of in any other context outside of...

Re: Another eBay Bargain

Well yes and no... Playing live is a mixed bag of nuts, too. A bad room is a bad room....like a lot of glass and hard floors....then people come in....the room deadens....and so on. In a concert hall...

Re: Another eBay Bargain

An Acrolite will hold more than a candle to the sound of a snare drum designed for orchestral work. Anyone who says that an Acrolite is wimpy doesn't know much about snare drums. Like it or not, the...

Re: Another eBay Bargain

I HIGHLY recommend you all check out a movie called "Who the !@#$%^ is Jackson Pollock?" in order to get a better idea of how the art world works. And, again, that's what this drum is, at this point...

Re: Just about as thin as a 22" ever gets

It's basically a big crash cymbal that you can ride on if you do it lightly. I think it's a really nice cymbal and I could see it being applied to a quiet jazz gig. I like it. EDIT: This isn't me or...

Re: Another eBay Bargain

Cool drum. Look at it as art. There are a lot of paintings I can't afford to own, too. This is a one of a kind in a world of millions of drums that are all the same. As a drum to play, it's not worth...
