Re: Luddy guys: what is this????

Honestly if this were me, I would probably rewrap the drum and put a P-85 on there. I don't think I would care for that strainer and snare set too much. Normally I hate to suggest this kind of thing...

Re: Slingerland, can you id this snare

I am certainly not a Slingerland expert but I thought in the 60's the shells were stamped with either a P or and M with the P meaning pearl wrap and the M meaning no wrap. Is it 6 lugs or eight? The...

Re: Wrap Fading 1964 Ludwig

Wow that looks pretty damn good I'd say. Yellowing of oyster black has never bothered me too much unless it looks dull. I have seen some sets where they lost a lot of that three dimensional pop. I...

Re: Identify Black Beauty

I think 2015 may have been the first year they stopped numbering badges. All I know is that I bought a brand new classic maple in 2012 and ll the B/O badges are numbered. I added a matching 14x14 in...

Re: Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl Downbeat

I think you scored one heck of a set. It pretty much matches Ringo's first downbeat set in that it has the correct badge placement(centered on the floor tom), the rail mount and the correct pre-1965...

Re: 1966 Ludwig Jazz Festival Snare - questions

You're going to find that the wrap goes into the shell and that this is indeed WMP. Nobody has been able to re-create that pattern like that and Ludwig only offered White Marine Pearl which was...

Re: Timeline for Ludwig Baseball Bat Muffler on toms

It seems that baseball bat mufflers first appeared sometime in later 1960 or sometime in early 1961. Prior to that Ludwig was using a small knob as the primary muffler adjustment. Around March/April...

Re: Vintage Ludwig Kit 3 ply? Help?

Ludwig was indeed using curved spurs in 1970. Those spurs came out around the middle of 1969 as there are a small handful of keystone badge sets with curved spurs.

Re: Vintage Ludwig Kit 3 ply? Help?

So re-reading the original post the numbers I see 888XXX would indicate early 1971. Would the other tom number be an 8 instead of a 6? that would make more sense to me and would also indicate an...

Re: Vintage Ludwig Kit 3 ply? Help?

First of all great score! This set looks like it's totally factory original with original heads and all. This topic has been discussed before but Ludwig did not offer a 20,13,16 out of any catalog...

Re: What would make this kit worth $4000???

The floor tom also has a badge in the upper position yet it still has nickle hardware. The snare has a white muffler inside so I am going to guess the twp pieces(if they are in fact pieces of a one...

Re: red drums in the attic.......

I feel your pain. I live in NH and there has been very little action with things for sale around here and I used to find all kinds of stuff years ago. I got a call once back in the 90's from some...

Re: 1960's Ludwig drum set - need help identifying and pricing.

I think more photos are needed. The grommet on the bass drum looks odd as are the other things I mentioned. I had an April 1963 silver sparkle set once with clear interior bass drum and white painted...

Re: 1960's Ludwig drum set - need help identifying and pricing.

Boy this is a tricky one. There are a lot of red flag things wrong with this set. I do believe this could certainly be early 60's on the shells. I have actually seen several early 60's sets with...

Re: Are early 70's Downbeat kits rare?

They are indeed rare. Lots of drummers were playing larger sized drums and the smaller drums were pretty much pushed away in favor of larger sizes. Ludwig was/is in the business of selling drums so...

Re: Is there such a thing as an 18" Downbeat Bass Drum?

I'm not trying to add wood to the fire but Kevin is making perfect sense. Personally I think Ludwig made catalogs to just showcase what they had available. They would put together outfits that they...

Re: '68 Ludwig Supraphonic

I have a couple of snares from 69 that look like that. I think some of the best Ludwig drums came from 68-69.

Re: Ludwig Psych red on reverb

The mount up top must have been a popular mod back in the day. Not only did my clubdate suffer the double tom mount, it also got a mount up top as well. Luckily for me the center post mount was...

Re: Wrap issues on possible buy

They are kind of high but they look all original and the color looks fantastic. Those are some strong greens! It's also common to see color patterns that don't match. The colors were different from...

Re: Ludwig Psych red on reverb

Wow that's cool Kevin! Too bad you missed that one! A B/O badge one to boot. I don't think I have ever seen a B/O badge psych red club date. I actually found my 71 mod orange club date on here....

Re: 1964/1965 Ludwig set in white wrap?

My head hurts trying to figure out what exactly happened here! If these were mine I would strip off the wrap, plug extra holes(I see something funny at the front of the bass drum) and rewrap in a...

Re: What's wrong with this CL ad? :)

I agree that this is a nice price. If this set is 80's then I would guess 1980 and no later. When modular hardware was introduced around 1981 it forced Ludwig to move the badge placement on the bass...

Re: I picked this up today

I think you could easily build a set around this. It looks to be from the earlier part of 1968 like maybe march or April? New gold sparkle matches pretty well too so you might be able to build pieces...

Re: Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl 12,13,16,20

Beautiful set. This was most undoubtedly part of a rock duo set that had two bass drums. I wonder what happened to the second bass drum? I have a rock duo from 1968.
