Re: Help Identifying a Possible Fibes Snare

OB!

As mentioned, I know/play ORIGINAL Fibes pretty cold .. 1965 to 1979 .. and not so much Corder, Darwin, and then Fibes Austin. So ... I did some research. I believe the drum he has here is...

Re: Help Identifying a Possible Fibes Snare

OB!
The drum shown is not fiberglass ... it's a maple shell .. so .. it could either be a Corder made drum which would date it at 1979 on .. or .. a Fibes Austin which would date in from 1994....

Re: Help Identifying a Possible Fibes Snare

OB!

Unfortunately, you are quite mistaken on this drum. The drum he has in the pics is either a Corder or Fibes Austin and NOT the ORIGINAL Fibes from either Farmingdale NY or the later Fibes...

Re: Buddy Rich Slingerlands thread UPDATE

... and they weren’t! See my response in O-lugs post above! The VF BR stick is a ”commemorative” and not remotely close to what BR used throughout his most illustrative career! Have a look at the pic...

Re: Buddy Rich Slingerlands thread UPDATE

That pic is owned by my buddy David who is actually the owner of the VDF, hence the watermark. I have in my collection .. from the same photo shoot .. the actual catalog shot, but without BR in it...

Re: Buddy Rich Slingerlands thread UPDATE

Buddy's sticks were NOT large actually. I have in my BR collection, a nice sampling of all the models he used between 1950 and 1982. I'll attach a pic. His stick was what I like to call a modified 7a...

Re: Buddy Rich Slingerlands thread UPDATE

Buddy was an INCREDIBLE brush player! Search out some vids ... you will be blown away! I never thought he got enough credit for his brush playing .. publicly .. but for all that have seen him LIVE .....

Re: Buddy Rich Slingerlands thread UPDATE

Agreed on the duct tape! .. and .. yes!, during the back part of this, his FINAL Ludwig endorsement, he ended up playing the SS pretty exclusively. Interestingly, shortly after this, he switched to...

Re: Buddy Rich Slingerlands thread UPDATE

hardbat/OB!

JUST the snare rash on the 9X13 alone would mean very little .. you are correct in stating that this type of "damage" isn't all that unique .. however, in this case it's another link...

Re: Buddy Rich Slingerlands thread UPDATE

leedybdp!

Could very well be! .. but .. fade/yellowing still don't seem to be EVEN on many sets/drums, and that's what is so odd given that the exposure on my 1966 Rogers was with all drums...

Re: Buddy Rich Slingerlands thread UPDATE

Absolutely no idea!, and the owner and I did talk about that at length too. I can offer this though:

I completely RUINED a MINT set of 1966 Rogers Buddy Rich Headliners in WMP by gigging them in...

Re: Buddy Rich Slingerlands thread UPDATE

I was talking about that yesterday with the owner, as he asked the same thing! Buddy's only requests on his sets were clear varnished interiors and NO tone controls. He had no preference on vent...
