This makes sense. I had a JG kit (Broadway), and the BD was very shallow. That snare is MIJ. No clue on the tom.

Not sure those are in fact vintage Yamaha's. They look MIJ, but no way are they worth anywhere near $500.00 lol. I don't see any badges, etc.

I scored a very similar kit off of CL a week ago. Mine has replacement black BD hoops, like yours. The 13" tom was wrecked years ago (by first owner), but it did come with a matching snare....

Head preference depends on the sound you want to achieve, but I'll assume you want a nice, open, warm, vintage tone. In that case, you can go wrong with coat Ambassadors, top and bottom.
