I just saw a video from Maxwell drums and Steve Junior was playing a really sweet looking red wine kit that he ordered and had them do a completely vintage build out....including a rail consolette...

Re: Bearing Edge Odyssey Starts Now

I would recommend that you don't do it! How large a diameter is your largest drum going to be? I can't even imagine trying to cut edges on a bass drum shell without having a dedicated setup for...

Re: Cocktail Drum Outfits

Ah, I see. So, technically, you would need to have a snare drum that had the collet mount and an extra knobby on the floor tom for it to be a Parklane, right? And you would technically need a snare...

Re: Cocktail Drum Outfits

Re: 1959 Gretsch Gold Sparkle

Don't take it personally, Kona. Me and leedybdp have been poking at each other over the issue of cataloged kits vs custom ordered kits for a long time and it looks like it's never going to change. :)...

Re: 1959 Gretsch Gold Sparkle

You answered your own question. The reason why is because the kit in the catalog is a named kit and that information is verifiable through catalog references. The other kit in your hypothetical, does...

Re: 1959 Gretsch Gold Sparkle

That's all well and good for you, but when someone comes here and asks about whether or not the kit they are trying to identify is one of the "suggested" factory configurations and named models, then...

Re: 1959 Gretsch Gold Sparkle

EXCELLENT jda! Thanks.

And again...None of this stuff would have made any difference to anyone, at the time....Now it does, though! Thank God for the catalogs and supplemental information and the...

Re: 1959 Gretsch Gold Sparkle

^^^I don't doubt that for a New York second! I guess that was someone's job back then. But things sure did change over time and now people really desire those marketing people's ideas. And I also...

Re: 1959 Gretsch Gold Sparkle

^^^Yeah...IF you had a time machine and could go back to that time, then it would be absolutely ludicrous to be concerned about a name of a drum set or if the configuration matched what the Gretsch...

Re: Cocktail Drum Outfits

Man, several years ago, I wanted to scab together a cocktail kit to gig with...I looked around for quite awhile at the available cocktail pedal options -all were junk...and the DW one was terrible!...

Re: Never heard or Seen a Ludwig Model 110 from 1971

The real irony is that when that drum was made, it likely cost a bit of money -back in the "old' days when almost everyone had a "custom' snare drum business.

I was curious as to whatever...

Re: Never heard or Seen a Ludwig Model 110 from 1971

Wow. There's 21 bids on that Frankenstein -no doubt people think they are bidding on a Ludwig drum...And all it took was a paper label.

Not a Ludwig shell -check

Not a Ludwig throw off -check

Very often, we see kits that aren't...

When Alice Cooper came through town, back in the really early 70's, his drummer (Neil Smith I think) had a chrome set of Slingerlands with all kinds of toms....but I swear his tom holders had the...

Re: Ludwig 75th Anniversary "Eagle" Kit for Sale on Ebay-Big Beat Configuration

Well...I don't like the eagle (pigeon) inlay very much, either...but, these are the types of drums that end up being the super collectible one day and end up on some future equivalent of the...

Re: Ludwig 1930's Rope Tension Drum ?

My thought is that the drum was probably made specifically for the army and that's why it's not in the old catalogs....? In other words, it wasn't offered to the public. I dunno...
