Re: Bearing Edges: Rounded or Sharp?

I think the big catalyst was the change in what some folks wanted to hear which was a more focused sound. In my mind the double 45 is all about focused attack and not at all about the drum/shell...

Re: Help identifying Gretsch snare

My guess would be late 1950's. Reason being is the single flange hoops and clips. But I'm certainly not an expert.

Re: whats everyones drum skin preferances?

Mike,

I haven't changed heads on my new to me 1969 ludwigs yet but they came with coated ambs on the top and clear amb resos.

On my gretsch kit I've found my best head set up to be Remo...

Re: question on rare gretsch kit

I think it all depends on the condition of the drums. If they are mint, showroom condition with perfect chrome I'd agree with the estimates but I think the price steeply decreases if they have...

Re: Ludwig White Marine Pearl

That is a gorgeous looking kit. I don't think I'd do anything to it but enjoy playing it.

Re: Ringo Kit!

I found one this weekend on Craigslist which said "Pearl Expert drums". I was dreaming that maybe it was an old MLX kit. Nope. Its a Pearl EXPORT. Not quite the same thing.

Re: The aging process

Most post was simply to inform folks that they may crack when used for rock or other louder gigs. By all means its your stuff use it as you may if you dig the sound. I just was throwing out my...

Re: Are vintage drums all they can be?

Is it funny that whenever you get a group of drummers together they can't agree on anything? Keep on Pl

I've had the privilege to own and play some great drums both modern and vintage. And I...

Re: The aging process

Wayne the best advice is buy with your ears not with your eyes. Don't buy them just because they are Ks and are supposed to sound good. Treat them like any other cymbals and only buy them if they...

Re: Old A Zildjian Crash

goughy,

A Zildjian started making cymbals in America in the late 1930's.

Hope this helps.

Re: K zildjian rare print?

I just checked with a great guy over at cymbalholic and was told that all of the ink was put on at the factory. There was some rumors that this was not the case but it seems that all of the ink was...

Re: K zildjian rare print?

I'm not sure exactly where I picked up that piece of knowledge. It may have been the cymbal book by Pinksterboer or over at cymbalholic.com.

I'll ask a very knowledgable source and get back to...

Re: 14" K. Zildjian & Cie Constantinople Trade Mark

Hi,

Thats a very interesting set of cymbals. Any story behind them? I'm just curious as they wouldn't normally be found together. They were made many years away from each other.

The K...

I'm an active member over a cymbalholic. I mostly lurk here as I love vintage drums but don't know much.

Anyway I'd say that Stoli's 24 is indeed a 1960's version. Brian...

Re: 1950s 16" Zildjian Hi Hats jazz hats indeed

Mike just informationally it wasn't until A Zildjian put out the new beats in the late 1960's that the extreme separation between the top and bottom hats became popular.

A bunch of theories I've...

Re: K zildjian rare print?

Hey PK drums,

I don't believe K Zildjian ink stamped any of their cymbals. The ink stamps were added by Gretsch once they reached the US. I have a K Zildjian ride that has a similar ink stamp. ...

Re: K Zildjian constantinople?

Adam,

The weight will be the deciding factor.

Given the age of these cymbals they were probably orchestral and not a set of hihats. BUT if they are on the thinner side they make great hihats....

Re: cast hoops

Wayne,

I think it depends on the sound you are looking for and the type of drums. The hoops are one part of the system as are the bearing edges, the shell material, shell thickness, etc.

Re: Can You Help Identify Gretsch Drums?

Dennis,

The floor tom may have a date stamp on the inside of the shell that would look similar to one you'd get for a library book.

What condition is the set in? Meaning is the wrap...

Re: Bounce Cymbals?

I have a My Weight 6000 or 6500 scale. It does either ounces or grams.

I got it from http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/

It was about $60. The company was great to deal with.

Re: Bounce Cymbals?

Zildjian used a bunch of different names back in the day. I've seen Bounce, Bop, and Dance all stamped on the surface of cymbals.

One cymbal I own has BOP stamped on it. Its a light 18" cymbal...

Re: Is this a vintage Zijldian?

Definitely not a zildjian in my opinion. That doesn't look like any stamp I've ever seen from K zildjian. There was a lot of knockoff being made in italy durng the same period that K zildjian was...
