Finding hardware can be difficult and expensive. If you’re able to save drums to play them, I say go for it. Of course I would like to see photos of the various projects you would undertake.

Ludwig was cranking out so many drums in the mid-60’s that it’s more than likely a mistake at the factory.

Jeff,
Thanks for the help. The veneer is also peeling away from the shell near the strainer and wear the center supports are, the veneer is indented. I think it has some kind of clear coat on it...

Thanks, stay tuned for my 13 inch Cub Model transition to a rack tom. If you have any ideas on repairing mahogany veneer let me know.

13" snare to rack tom project

Here is the screen shot from the 1964 catalogue showing this Cub Model snare drum. The serial number puts this drum in 1965 so compared to my other drums it's quite new and the same age as the kit...

Here is the screen shot from the 1922 catalogue. I think on the iPad it is a .png file and when I put it on my computer, it becomes a .jpg file.

The catalog were this drum shows up is the 1922 catalog on page 19. I could not find it anywhere else where is offers a maple shell. From the stamps inside the shell, I’m concluding that the shell is...

Nice drum. What year is it from? I think my next project will be more challenging because the veneer seems so thin and it’s damaged in a couple of spots. I need to do a little reasearch on...

Here are the last five photos. I will update later this week when I get the resonant head. 15 inch heads are not that common and I was lucky to find both pretty quickly.

Here are five more. I put the old heads back on because I wanted to see how it looked assembled. I should get the last head on Tuesday.

Here are five more. I also cleaned the hardware with CLR and polished them up. A lot of the chrome had come off but they look okay.

I used a stripper and sanding since the stripper never really gets all of the paint off. I still have some more sanding to do but itís been way too hot here.

I used fiberskin on my 28 inch Pioneer bass drum but not sure what to do for toms. While I like some ring on my snare drums, I tried a Renaissance on my 65 jazz festival, the ring was way too much...
