My Christmas Present

Here they are, my very first Camco kit and an Oaklawn to boot. The kit has been refinished, t-rods, claws, floor tom legs and bottom tom hoops are not original, it's also missing the mufflers, but...

Re: Interesting Video

There's a subtle difference, even with the newer Gretsch and Ludwig. I doubt Steve Maxwell went through all that effort to make a video highlighting two kits and not have both kits tuned correctly. I...

Re: Interesting Video

I agree, the Camcos blew the dw's away. It just goes to show it's difficult to reproduce that vintage sound on a modern kit.

Re: Camco

I'm leaning towards the Camco for $1,400, it's an Oaklawn kit.

Re: limited time : DW Movie woody

I'm will say that DW are the most impressive "tapping on" drums in the store! Every time I walk by a kit and tap on a DW tom, they always resonate for a long time...and I always remember that as...

Re: Camco

Hey, I still have the Gretscherland, I actually bought a Slingerland 13" champagne sparkle tom off Reverb. I should have it in a few days, so I'm keeping this kit. I may sell the 12 that's in the...

Re: Camco

Ha, no, I'm just in the market for a new kit, sorta a Christmas present to myself, just weighing all my options.
I like the dw because it's made like the RK kits and I'm looking for a smaller kit...

Re: Camco

I think $750 is way low for a Camco kit, even with some unoriginal parts.
I came across this dw Classic kit, designed after the Slingerland RK kits. It has an 8x12,14x14,14x20, $1,400, it looks...

So, $1,500 is probably too high?

Re: Camco

It's an Oaklawn kit, I'll have to ask the owner about all the issues you pointed out.
Btw, he wants $1,500.

Camco

I'm thinking about taking the plunge into my first Camco kit. How does this one look? As far as I know it's all original with no real issues.
Thanks.

Re: Buddy

I think the reviewer was referring to jazz drummers that are around today, not from when Buddy was alive. I had heard someone else say the same thing, that the newer jazz drummers around NY don't...

Buddy

I was watching a review of the movie Whiplash. The reviewer was talking about the real and unrealistic parts of the movie. One thing he said, which I'd heard before, is that it was unrealistic that...

Re: limited time : DW Movie woody

Is it just me or does that dude that's tapping on the plys of wood look like he's thinking, "Ok, John, whatever you say, now please just give me my new drum set, I have an album to finish."Storm...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

I had a rb with a 13,16,24 and currently have a 22 kick. My main issue is changing the heads, it's an adventure to say the least.
The drums sound fantastic, the kick I have now is one of the best...

Re: DW Buys Slingerland Name

Ya know what modern kit does have a vintage vibe? The new Ludwig Club Dates, the ones made in the USA with the thin maple/poplar/maple shells with no re-rings. I traded for one several months ago, it...

Re: DW Buys Slingerland Name

When I trade it's usually for a kit with the same sizes and a lot of times the same company. So, I may trade a Ludwig with a 13,16,22 for another Ludwig in the same sizes, but a different finish. My...
