Re: super classic bass drums

I see that this thread has been resurrected after more than 4 years!

In regards to the 18x20 bass drum from 1959, Ludwig did offer an 18x20 floor tom, so it would be easy enough, on a custom...

Re: Japanese Tension Rods

I think you were wise to get these! Let us know if they work. My gut response is that they are what you need!

Re: Japanese Tension Rods

That sounds about right! I treat all the metric tension rods on my MIJ drums like gold, knowing that I will find it difficult to obtain replacements!

Re: Slingerland "root beer" finish&Spitfire "Tre' Cool" kit.

slingerfan! You're right on all counts! Yes, I also questioned about that kit being an early 70's, which it is not! I had a 1975 BR 80N kit, in original red sparkle, that came with chrome inlay...

Re: Pdp cx series snare drum any good?

Hello bp350... and Welcome to the forum! human71 (Rob), good to hear from you!

bp350 is correct. The PDP CX series used all-maple shells with covered wraps. To lower costs, a new lug was used, but...

Re: Slingerland "root beer" finish&Spitfire "Tre' Cool" kit.

The posting issue has finally been fixed!!

+1 with the info posted by K.O. The "Tre' Cool" kit was from the cheap Spitfire line, made in Taiwan. They were inexpensive drums, which is why Tre had...

Re: Japanese Tension Rods

Just checked a tension rod from one of my Star snare drums. Definitely not 12-24 threaded! It is metric, but I don't have any metric pitch guides to figure it out. I do believe they are 5mm, but most...

Re: Japanese Tension Rods

Hello tpick,

First, you need to determine if these are standard 12-24 us thread or metric. If it's a 60's Star tension rod, then it probably is metric threaded. I don't recall what thread size...

Yes, I remember that, too. Seems like it was just recently. Maybe someone will remember and post the link.

Re: Slingerland Info Sought

I have a real soft spot in my heart for the Modern Solo 2R with dual 12" rack toms and the double ratchet tom holder. It appeared in my very first Slingerland catalog, 68, given to me by my band...

Yes, pictures will certainly help! Still, there is always value to the Recording Custom drums...and...your color should also be a plus!

Re: Slingerland Price Check

I'm also going to go with $750. Maybe just a tad more, depending on how the stars are aligning on any specific day! My very first pro Slingerland kit was an 80N with 5-ply shells. I really had tuning...

Same price as the other 15" wire set, but has channels for...

Re: Slingerland shell repair

Jeff! You're welcome!

Your repair jobs are always first-rate! The inexpensive 15" wires will at least fit, sound good, and get the drum completed.

Re: Slingerland shell repair

Hey Jeff!

Actually, you can get away with the 14" wires. However, if you just need an inexpensive set of wires, that sound good, you can go with these generic 15" wires from DFD......

Re: Restoring a PAINTED Ludwig Super Classic set

The tom is looking good! Even at 4x what you paid, I'd still take on the project! No one said a project like this will be quick. Just takes time and patience to complete. I'm encouraged by that one...

Re: Slingerland shell repair

Jeff,

You're correct about the length of the wires. A 15" set will have about the same amount of space across the bottom as a 14" set.

Re: Slingerland shell repair

Hey Jeff!

A fantastic restoration! As to snare wires, there's always Puresound. Fatcat offers a 15" set of wires for drums with deep beds. Your drum probably qualifies. Canopus makes excellent...

Re: Karen Drums - MIJ Stencil Info?

The bass drum looks like a 20". Definitely not a 22". Just checked my stash of parts and I've got a decent selection of 12/13/16 heads, along with hoops. Let me know when you get the kit so you can...

Re: Karen Drums - MIJ Stencil Info?

Hey Stephen!

For $50, it's a pretty good deal! I'm in SoCal, too. Covina. Let me check all my boxes of parts and see what I've got in the way of hoops and heads. If it makes you feel any better, I...

Stephen,

What size toms are with the kit? Looks like 12", 13" and 16"? Also, where do you live?
