Do the model numbers start with 9? i.e BD922, TT912,FT916? If so, those are the 9000 pre-recording custom drums. they were the top of the line Yamaha's. I have a kit exactly like that from 1980-81....

The 9000's were the same all birch shells as the recording series, the only real difference was the lug design. In '83 they might have introduced the 8 series. I thought they only had the 9000, 7000,...

I have a YD 9000-D kit from 1979/1980, which has the same shells with single (tour style) lugs. Even though the Yamaha site lists them as birch/camellia, the catalog from the time states 100% birch...
