Re: Wanted zildjian gong

It is listed on Reverb with local pickup in Kansas City. Shipping is an issue with this, as I am not even sure how I would package it up. I may end up driving it to plexi69 in Colorado, as I am...

Re: Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl Downbeat

I think that zenstat meant to say that the serial numbers in the 26000 range are from early 1964 +/- 6 months. I very much agree that down-to-the-month precision is not supportable when one only has...

This one is 28" in diameter. Is that large enough?

Re: Anhy Gretsch Experts?

I thought the placement of the leg mounts was interesting. There do not seem to be extra holes from Gretsch mounts before the Rogers ones. I think that most floor toms I have seen do not put a leg...

Re: Anhy Gretsch Experts?

I saw pictures of that drum a few days ago. I have documented a small number of Gretsch drums which would normally have had but lacked the silver sealer, but most are concentrated in a different...

Re: Timeline for Ludwig Baseball Bat Muffler on toms

The small round knob mufflers are found on many marching drums made during the baseball bat era.

Re: 1960's chrome Gretsch snare identification???

I have a few more reports of drums between 55000 and 65000. Serial number 56595 does not have the knurling. Serial numbers 57158, 58105 and 61523 have the knurling.

Re: Gretsch 4105 6 lug aluminum questions

K.O. is right. The early aluminum snares used the 4105 model number that was already in use on a wood shelled 6 lug snare. Eventually Gretsch started using model numbers 4106 (which had previously...

Re: Gretsch 4105 6 lug aluminum questions

The lowest serial numbers I have seen on Gretsch Aluminum snares are in the 89000 range. That would be in about the 1967 +/- time frame. Your drum is likely from the 1967-1968 time period. Note...

Re: Value on Gretsch round badge Rock and Roll

Something looks a bit wrong on the toms. The tone control knobs should be facing the drummer, with one tom designed to be on the left and the other designed to be on the right. I know you just put...

Re: Price check 1966 ludwig black oyster snare

I looked into shipping from the UPS Store which is a few blocks away. It was cost prohibitive for me. Interesting deal for a local.

Re: Price check 1966 ludwig black oyster snare

Thanks guys. I am very pleased with it. Of course, I can't get rid of the Supra, because it came with the set.

I had just sold a different set, which freed up funds for the Pioneer purchase. ...

Re: Price check 1966 ludwig black oyster snare

I am very happy with it. I will need to clean it along with the set which I acquired last year just before going to the Chicago Show in May. The set came with a Supraphonic.

Re: Value of Date Stamp 1969 Acrolite

So, is there a serial number on the top of the badge which is covered by the top hoop or is it a no serial number badge?

Just now noticing this thread. Thanks for sharing information about your set. I am also from Kansas, sitting on the correct side of line in Kansas City.

Re: Another Ludwig Date Question

The blend of logos on the hardware may help, but it is sometimes difficult to know for certain if the hardware is original to the drums or has been switched during the decades. The holes for the tom...

Re: Another Ludwig Date Question

The "out of sequence" phrase is also greatly misunderstood. Based upon the information I have gathered, with the help of some on this forum, the serial numbers in the early 1970s are not any more...

Re: Another Ludwig Date Question

I agree that these drums are from a bit earlier than 1976. The resources that indicate a wide range of serial numbers are from 1976 are not very accurate. Most take information from Rob Cook's...

Re: Zildjian gong

That one is mine. It is a 28" Turkish gong or Tam Tam. It has a 50s stamp. Brian allowed me to show it in his booth, but it did not sell. It is back in Kansas City now.

Re: When Did Ludwig Change the Way the Wrap Drums?

The method of forming the shells and applying the wrap changed in roughly 1968/69. Someone has a better or more precise date, but I do not have it in front of me at the moment. Have you looked at...

Here is my set. Lefty set up. I need a few small pieces and a thorough cleaning. Examples of the two badges are attached. I think that what I am calling the Pirate badge is what you are calling...

Re: 1960 Rogers 14x14 Floor tom

I am in need of a 14x14 Jet Black floor tom with bread and butter lugs like yours. I have a set that does not have the right floor tom. I will look for the Blue Sparkle. If you find one and want...
