Re: Another great gone

Sorry to hear this. She lived here in Sacramento for a few years back in the mid-1980s, so I got to hear her play and sing many times. In fact, she replaced me in a quartet with saxophonist Boyd...

Re: WFL Barrett Deems Snare

How does one identify a Barrett Deems model snare drum? I'm a big fan of his, and have always wondered.

Re: Observation from my friend

I enjoy both sites and I don't have a problem with either one. If your friend is looking for perfection, he's not going to find it on the web.

Re: Humble Collection of Old A, Italian, and misc.

Oh, cool. Indeed, I used to have one from the early 70s that sounded great and that I wish I still had. It was 22", thin, dark and dry, and probably $10. Recorded well too.

Re: Humble Collection of Old A, Italian, and misc.

What is an "old J"? I've never heard that term before.

Nice collection, but you really need a Fleetfoot.

Re: Zildjian 30" ride cymbal

It's a beautiful achievement in craftsmanship, but I am struggling to imagine a musical use for it.

Re: Another eBay Bargain

I don't know a lot about orchestral snares, but I once bought an old Hinger from a friend and it was virtually impossible to get it to sound usable for any application other than classical. I...

Re: What Make/Brand are these drums?

almost looks like a Gretsch kit that has been horribly "refinished". More likely Japanese.

Re: Slingerland Yellow Jacket question

I keep coming back to my vintage Camco. It's exactly the same pedal as the Gretsch Floating Action, so either one is a winner in my book. I own three and they are all quiet, smooth, and light. ...

Re: Now THIS guy has some gorgeous K's!

Roberto once told me he had an open offer to trade any of his cymbals for ANY old K. When I visited him in the 1990s he only had a few. But he wanted more, because he was really interested in...

Re: Why do I trust Ebay sellers?

This is clearly misleading. He should have shown the drum without legs, or clearly stated that the legs weren't included. And I wouldn't settle for the actual legs, because he said they are in...
