Re: New drum coming

Jeff - Nice looking snare. I have a similar one which carries a Rocket label. The condition is fair, but I just liked the look of the wrap.

Re: Fred Armisen's "Standup For Drummers" on Netflix

I watched it last week. It was half for drummers and half general Armisen humor. It was low key. Revival provided a number of period kits for a bit on drumming through the years. It was worth...

Re: Ludwig smooth script mount tensioners

I could use some too. Let me figure out how many mounts I have that are missing them.

Re: Ludwig 7 Digit Serial Numbers B&O badges

Based upon the serial numbers you provided and the 6 ply shell on the 15" tom, I suspect that the bulk of your drums are from about 1976 or so and the 15" tom is from about 1979. Note that these are...

Re: Ludwig 7 Digit Serial Numbers B&O badges

Be very careful using the online dating guide you quote above. It was developed by Rob Cook in 2003, using information he gathered and information shared by other drum enthusiasts. Much of the...

Re: Vintage Stencil Drum Book

I also purchased this book. I appreciate it for what it is - a start that includes some information that I have not seen elsewhere. I foresee making notes in my book as I pick up additional...

Re: Ludwig Paper Labels from 1971/72 Time Frame - Date Codes?

For those following this thread, I revised the tables on my website regarding the Date Codes. It is at the bottom of this page - http://www.gretschdrumdatingguide.com/ludwig-drum-guide.html

Re: Is this a Gretsch / Jasper shell? (1970s)

The double flat washers do not look right to me, to add to the long list of items mentioned above which have been changed.

Re: Starr Fest

Gary had a drum at the 2017 Chicago Show that was a prototype. It had the cigarette burn and everything. It will interesting to see if that level of detail makes it into the final product.

I'd be interested in the snare just because it is a bit different. Let me know.

Re: Ludwig Paper Labels from 1971/72 Time Frame - Date Codes?

zenstat is right. I was reporting 3x13 chrome snare drums without regard to their catalog name. I do not have reports of wood shelled 3x13 snares after 1969/1970.

Re: Ludwig Paper Labels from 1971/72 Time Frame - Date Codes?

The "Date Code" was in use in approximately 1971/1972. This pushes zenstat's date just a little. I have seen other B/O badge 3x13 Jazz Combos in chrome, some with serial numbers indicating dates...

Re: Baseball Bat Muffler on B/O Ludwig?

It is generally believed (based upon old videos of the Ludwig production process) that the badge holes were drilled freehand and not with a template or chuck. Therefore, there is some natural...

Re: 1935 Ludwig Silver Anniversary 6 1/2 inch snare.

This is a really nice drum. I've seen it in person, and it looks better than the pictures. The detailed close-up pictures almost accentuate the minor imperfections.

Re: Baseball Bat Muffler on B/O Ludwig?

The combination of a 3-ply shell, white Resa-Cote interior paint and a baseball bat style tone control point to a Keystone badge era drum.

What are the shell dimensions? What wrap/finish?

Re: Ludwig Acrolite Serial Number Info

Welcome to the forum.

Acrolites from that era appear with both the two hole and twelve hole black faced P-85s.

If you are going to have to spend a lot of money on parts, you might keep...

Re: Ludwig Date Stamps

tpick - I have also seen date stamps from 1962 in both red and black. Red was more common, but some black stamps have been recorded.
Have you found a drum stamped on your birthday yet?
