I think they're fine, and the mount method (string, ribbon plastic strip) should follow the drum they are being put on.

I would have went with Tyvek tape. Thin, strong and durable. Also white.

The tape is not made of tyvek, it is used to seal the overlaps when you wrap your house.

Trust me: it's sticky stuff.

The only solvent I use on solid wood is acetone. Not nail polish remover as that has other crap added to it. Just the best acetone you can get. Reagent grade preferred. Try an automotive paint store...

I don’t know about them falling out; just that the threads in the lugs strip when the screws are removed. I’d look into heli-coil kits and figure out if there’s enough meat there for thread inserts....
