Re: Slingerland snare basement find, not sure next move - updated

Thanks for the replies. What I did: tore the drum apart, assessed everything and cleaned as much as I could with the Quick-Glo stuff (a new favorite product), and put back together without...

Slingerland snare basement find, not sure next move

Hi all. Got me a 20 dollar chrome over 3ply mahogany 8 lug snare hoping to do some resto magic on it but I fear the chrome wrap is too far gone to be made very pretty, just too much pitting. It is...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

Well I, for one, get them. I think a lot of our preferences go back to the famous drummers over the years that we like and the equipment they used rather than some esoteric discriminations about...

Re: latest project snare

Super cool.. Can you tell us the finished weight? Many comments about it's mass but exactly how heavy is it?

Re: DW Buys Slingerland Name

if I was running marketing with this acquisition, I'd try to keep the brand as differentiated as possible, and stick to what everybody loves; thin shells, pretty and well made signature hardware,...

Radio King Reissue

Thought I'd share this see what you fine people think.
What I have here is a Slingerland Radio King re-issue made in 1995, post Niles era. I'd played so many gigs with my 6.5" deep metal Slingerland...

Re: What's with Acrolite (and Blackrolite) prices?

I eBay'ed a 1984 B/O acro in excellent condition about a year ago, a proper 7 day no-reserve auction, got about 10 bids and it ended at $150 which I was happy with. I'm not seeing too many of them...

Re: Slingerland.Black Chrome Over Wood Snare Drum

I think it is on the rarer side due to the 3ply and Black Chrome which was a pretty short-lived finish in the catalog. This was my chosen finish when I ordered my first made-to-order kit back in 1980...

Re: Rogers Re-Wrap

Re: Refinishing late 50s Gretsch drums - maybe

If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it were me and I wanted some custom work done I'd either find a good name-but-beat-to crap tubs or buy some new raw Keller shells and go nuts.

another vintage melodic restore

This is a mid 50s Jenco vibraphone. It's not a premium model like a Musser or Deagan so I wasn't too worried about keeping it original. The original look is ugly anyway what with all that gold...

Re: Back In The Vintage Game... Slingy Style

Super nice kit. I had that exact setup as my first kit, used, in red sparkle, bought for me by my dad in like 1973 before they had any real value. He paid less than a hundred bucks for the 4 pieces....

Re: 1966 Ludwig Jazz Festival Snare - questions

Love finds like that. My bet is that's a faded WMP but still looks cool. I've found 2 B/O badged acrolites at thrift stores or yard sales for 10 bucks each so far.
One was near perfect and I got...

Re: not a drum, but is vintage, and percussion...

Thanks for the kind words all - tuning costs basic rate is 60 bucks / octave, more if bars need refinishing or replacement. These are all good with about 8 or so having a few stains which can be...

slightly OT, but I know you guys and gals love the vintage stuff. I have been on the lookout for a nice marimba for years and finally this one popped up in an estate sale. This is a Deagan 52C...
