Re: Slingerland Drums For Sale

Alright, lads and lasses,
I have had one nibble on these, but it seemed to have fizzled out. Help me out here.

1. Is the price too high?
2. Is it the brand that does not appeal? I know...

Re: Slingerland-to buy or not to buy

Jeepers! I shoulda looked before I posted my exact copy of this set for sale too!!!

Those drums appear to be too white. I believe they are rewraps. Super Set-o-matic would be mounted toward...

Re: I'm back using a Ringo throne-ouch!

I’ve been doing everything I can think of to downsize what I lug to gigs, including going back to a light weight vintage throne. Most things I have downsized have worked out great, and a few...

Re: 21th century surf drummers

I guess my interest in Vintage drums is not the same as some others here on the VDF. I understand the desire to locate, procure and display the perfect specimen, but my interest in vintage drums is...

Re: Beautiful, or just grandma’s linoleum?

Yes, it does look grayer. Not unlike what typically happens to Sky Blue Pearl. Blues turn gray, blacks turn green. (Often - there are many exceptions)

Re: Beautiful, or just grandma’s linoleum?

Well, John, I’m looking for the tweener, like yours. And since you’re not yet ready to sell, I’ll be seeking one just like yours.

The one in the link on my original post appears to be like yours....

Re: Beautiful, or just grandma’s linoleum?

K.O., I was just figuring that out! I’ve seen some that have absolutely zero “3-Dimensionality” to them - they just look flat. At first, I was thinking that they were just not shiny, but your...

So John (Levelpebble), I imagine those are yours. What do you think of the sound of those maple Ludwigs?

Re: Beautiful, or just grandma’s linoleum?

L-Dude, I prefer the original OBP too, but most examples have either turned a greenish color, or the seller asks a price as if Ringo comes with them!

Re: Beautiful, or just grandma’s linoleum?

Mr. Sticks,
That’s a brilliant idea. I play in a 60’s rock and roll band. I’m picturing myself dressed as you described behind those drums. Maybe some big ol’ black-framed Buddy Holly glasses...

Re: Beautiful, or just grandma’s linoleum?

Wayne, this particular set is really glossy. I bet it would clean up even better with a little attention.

Beautiful, or just grandma’s linoleum?

I used to think that the “Bowling Ball” version of Black Oyster Pearl looked like the linoleum on my grandma’s kitchen floor. But now...

Re: Circa 1962 Ludwig Super Classics in WMP

I have seen A LOT of vintage Ludwig and WFL drums wrapped in WMP, but yours is the brightest, whitest I have seen. They look spectacular! Congratulations.

Re: Premier XPK

What’s with the floor tom? It looks like a giant bongo head is stretched on top? Weird.

Re: 1952 WFL Porto-Pak Outfit No. 986P in Sparkling Red Pearl with era correct FT

Wow, Mark, what a terrific find! Doesn’t that 12” deep bass drum sound perfect?

I have ‘57 WFL’s (that I coincidentally got from Fry), and the badge is offset to the side like yours is, with the...

Re: Ludwig hoop repair SOS

If you use yellow PVA (poly vinyl acetate) glue, the joint will probably be fine. These are common woodglues: Elmers, Titebond. If it were a clean break, as if it had been cut, you’d probably be...

Re: Value of this Slingerland kit

Drumbob, I’m with you on preferring a 13” if it’s a four piece. It’s no coincidence that most four-piece sets feature the 13 and 16. A winning combo.

But just got back from a gig, and I played...

Re: Any idea on manufacturer of Tom?

Looks like 1960’s Slingerland. No vent holes or badge on toms before the late ‘60’s. They stamped ‘P’ for drums destined to get a pearl wrap.

Re: Value of this Slingerland kit

Mark,
I’ve had the same set in Champagne Sparkle (1966) for the better part of a year. The mount was changed to a super set-o-matic, but is otherwise the same. The drums tune effortlessly and...
