Re: How best to ship a bass drum?

The US Post Office is convenient, and not too expensive, but a well packed 16x22 bass drum will likely be over their size limit. Note that I said well packed, as in at least a couple of inches of...

Re: Slingerland snare mystery(at least to me)

I had a `70s 6.5" Soundking snare, and I had been keeping my eyes open for a less common `60s black and brass badged model with the 6.5"shell.
When I saw this one with the Rapid strainer, and in...

Re: Slingerland snare mystery(at least to me)

I have one with a 6.5" shell and 8 lugs. I also prefer the Rapid strainer.

Re: Slingerland Metal Snare - Is it Barrett Deems Model?

Nice drums. I have one, but the internal damper is a single pad, not the double like yours.
Yes, it is the Brass Shell model.
They are certainly not as common as the later 3 line shells. I think I...

Re: Now I have two!

Nice drums John. I don't have a Jazz fest , but it is the drum I am looking to be the next to add to my modest collection of `60s American snares.
Most that I see are going for full retail because...

Re: Rogers 7-Line Dynasonic SCORE!!

Nice score!
Yeah, I think `66 is correct.
I have serial # 9719, and I think it is a `67.

Re: Slingerland snare drum mystery (TO ME,IT IS)

Just so happens that I bought a 6.5" version recently, and it also has the Rapid strainer.
I had not seen any of these 3 line shells with the Rapid strainer except for Leedy badged drums, but...

Re: Unusual `60s Slingerland snare

To my ears, these Slingerland snares sound close to perfection.
If I had to choose one snare drum to play, it would be a Slingerland `60s cob.

Unusual `60s Slingerland snare

I had been on the lookout for a `60s badged 6.5" Sound King snare.
Had a `70s version with the black and silver badge, but really wanted a `60s black and brass badged one, and they don't seem to be...

Re: does anyone else think less is more

I have never used more than a 6 pc kit.
Lately, a 4 pc kit with 1 up and 1 down, along with an 18" crash/ride and hats, is my favorite setup. I sometimes add another crash, but I can do without it....

Re: Gem of a snare

It's the drum that is simply called the new brass shell snare in the `59 catalog.

Re: Sonor Bop Kit... I am Impressed.

Just bought one of these kits, and I really like it!
I can't believe how good it sounds for a "budget " kit.
Like many kits, it sounds better after replacing the original heads, but even those...

Gem of a snare

I have had this very early `60s Slingerland brass shell snare drum for a few years now. It is a great sounding drum.
I have a similar `65 Sound King, and have owned other mid `60s Slingerland...

Re: Heads

I have become a fan of the Evans coated G12 and G14 heads for the batter side of toms, with coated G1 reso heads. They are thicker single ply heads . On my `68 Rogers kit, the G12 on the 12" tom with...

Re: Trying again with this old throwoff - can anyone identify the brand?

Looks to me like someone did a good job of making their own strainer from what looks to be steel, or even aluminum.
All the basic frame pieces are flat stock that has been cut and bent, but nothing...

Re: International shipping of drums - HOW???

USPS (the postal service) is the only way to ship without it costing a fortune, and even they are not cheap these days. Unfortunately, a 24" bass is going to be bigger than you can fit into a box...

tillerva, thanks for the IPS suggestion!
At first I thought you were making a joke, and that IPS was just the fictitious company that Doug on the tv show King of Queens worked for.
I had no idea it...

Re: International shipping help

The bass drum is a 14x22. Of course that is the shell size, not the assembled dimensions.
The biggest box USPS will ship is 24x24x18.
Even if I strip all the lugs, the tom mount, and the receiver...
