Re: 311 Come Original!!

I saw 311 about 10 years ago. I'm an old ****, but after a friend turned me on to them, I couldn't resist seeing them live. The level of musicianship in this band is second to none. If you get the...

Re: Kent using Jasper shells?

I have a snare shell from a friend and it's begun to "unravel" - So they may indeed be rolled shells. I also doubt highly that they were made in Jasper, due to the quality and workmanship of the...

Re: Jazz Kits - Which One Is Magic For You...

For me, it's this kit right now.

Just played them Thursday night on a jazz gig and they sung. I also find them very comfy, which...

Played first Jazz gig with my Jazz sized Kents!

Not my first ever Jazz gig, but the first one using my red sparkle 20", 12", 14" Kent kit.

Band was a trio (drums, sax and keys) and the drums sounded and felt great. I couldn't be happier with...

Re: Any Mapex guru's out there? Need ID on kit.

Well this thread seems to have come back from the dead, but I might as well update it in case we have any other Mapex questions down the road.

We've used the kit for a couple of different shows...

Looking for a kit for a friend.

I have a good friend who's in the market for a nice players kit. Vintage is nice, but not necessary.

Here's what we're looking for: A 4 piece with the kick in the 22" - 26" size, rack tom in the...

Re: Crashable rides

I have 3 "rides" which also work well as crashes. A 20" Zilco which I purchased from a forum member here. I use it all the time both live and recording. I'd call it a medium weight, not light and not...

Re: Kent Snare Or Not On Shopgoodwill

Can't tell from the pics, but as Tom said, it's in NY so it could be. At $70.00 + it's not a bargain though.

It appears to not have a Kent throw, just and adjustable snare tensioner which I've not...

Re: Kent-opia!

Might be that big pile of Kent stuff (back on eBay a few weeks) being sold off in bits.

All I know is, it's a good time to be a Kent collector, even if the prices are a bit high.

Re: Kent 8x13 Rack Tom?

That looks a lot better. Don't be scared to try some edge work on the drum. You probably can't make it worse than it is. Read all you can, go slow and check your work regularly.

Re: Kent 8x13 Rack Tom?

Cleaned up pretty good, but whoa... some of those lugs are way off. For the worst offenders, you can try loosening up the screws holding the lugs in place and re-adjusting them to get them more in...

Re: should I install consolette to virgin bass drum?

I'm siding with the "Don't do it!" crowd on this one. If it were a newer drum and not a RB Gretsch, then I might entertain the idea because I also like the old-school look of a rail mount.

That...

Re: What type of cymbals used here??

Sounds like a 10" or 12" fairly thin cymbal to me. I have a 12" Zilco that I found abandoned in a "junk" closet at a school which was founded in 1922. No idea how old it is, but I've used it for the...

Re: Okay, What the heck are these Ludwigs?

Whoa! A 24" X 24" kick drum makes my mouth water. Bonham would be jealous!!!

I imagine there must be a way to join two together. You may have a seam, but who cares.

Epoxy, acrylic welding????

Re: Picked This Little Guy Up Today

And just for the record, that shell isn't maple, it's luan. Not sure what the re-rings are.

Nice snare!

How's it sound?

WooHoo - Gigging the Kent's tonight - Manchester NH!

Yes, this is a shameless self promotion :) Actually, I only do a handful of drum gigs a year so I thought I'd post this. It's at the Strange Brew in Manchester NH. If any of the local forum members...

Re: Kent 8x13 Rack Tom?

That website is one of the best resources for info on Kent drums.

The color could be gold sparkle as well, but the pictures make it hard to tell for sure.

Snap some pics in a shaded area during...
