Re: K. Zildjian Constantinople...the worlds most sought after cymbals

Incredible collection, thanks for sharing! That last photo shows an Intermediate Stamp.

Re: Why burgundy sparkle?

Burgundy was very expensive, and considered to be very rare, up until maybe 3 years ago, when it started showing up everywhere. For decades, it rarely came up for sale, but then the skies opened up...

Ludwig Telescoping (Clubdate) Bass Drum Spurs

Need a set of '60s or '70s Ludwig Clubdate type telescoping spurs. Don't need the mounts, just the spurs.

Thanks,

Bill

Re: Fake old K Constantinople?

That's as real as it gets. The buyer is clearly confused. Feel free to have them contact me if they're still unsure.

Re: Gretsch Badge- scratched

I think polishing the badge would look bad, and I'm not sure there's a good way to cover or otherwise deal with the scratch. Vintage Gretsch badges have really come down in price in the past couple...

Re: Gretsch Monster tom bolts

Are these the bolts that go in the bass drum mount? Look sort of like bulky Rogers swivo screws?

Re: "Polished Maple" Gretsch

I know. All I can think is that the veneer process was expensive and Gretsch only did it under very special circumstances. What gives me hope that a kit will surface is that I had never seen a real...

Re: "Polished Maple" Gretsch

Philly Joe had quite the hippie look going by the SSB era, unlike in this photo. The Gretsch BD logo is in the RB spot. The style of HH stand was out of use by most drummers by the mid-'60s. The...

Re: "Polished Maple" Gretsch

I see what you're saying. However, to say "never" implies that you have 100% indisputable proof that Gretsch never made one of these kits during the RB era. I would like to see such proof. If you are...

Re: "Polished Maple" Gretsch

One thing I just noticed in the pic of Philly Joe is what appears to be a veneer seam on the small tom, near the muffler knobs. I've seen the same thing on '60s Slingerland natural maple kits, and it...

Re: "Polished Maple" Gretsch

There are enough photos and videos around of Gretsch RB natural maple kits that I wouldn't feel confident in stating that Gretsch "never" offered them.

The natural maple kit in the pic of Philly...

Re: 15" K Zildjian - what year?

Looks to me like either Type 2b or 3a, but it's hard to tell since the "IN" from "MADE IN TURKEY" isn't really there. Can you share a pic of the stamp from the other cymbal?

Re: Zildjian K Istanbul copies/fakes

Yes, it is a fake. There are several things wrong with the font, not to mention it is upside-down. The hammering, lathing, and bell all look wrong. We've seen this stamp before, possibly even these...

Re: What are 60's Oyblack Jazzfests fetching ?

I've had a couple of the "correct" Ringo snares, and was definitely never offered 30K. I sold one for 10K (I thought *that* was insane), and one for 8K. They weren't exactly easy to sell, either. I...

Re: What are 60's Oyblack Jazzfests fetching ?

It's good to know that the market seems to be back up. I used to really follow Oyster Black prices, but got out of it when they dropped in value, back around 2012. I had two really nice Oyster Black...

Re: Gretsch SSB 18x14 question

Looks fine to me. Correct position, correct spacing. The center hole is a little off, but hey it's '70s Gretsch. That hole can also wear unevenly because of the pressure that the Pratt knob screw is...

Re: another blue note

That ad has been there for almost 3 years, since Jan 2012. There are other sets on that website that I know for sure are scams, such as the Jazzette kit and Billy Cobham set.

This one has all the...

Re: Unusual Trans Stamp

I've had a couple like that...I think they fall between the "ridged" '40s stamp and the early '50s stamp. I asked Bill H about one once and he thought it was from about 1949.

Re: 1969 Ludwig LM402 Keystone badge

Hmm, that sure would go well with my '69 Bonham kit (also date-stamped April '69). Let me know when you're ready to sell!

Re: 10K snare at Guitar Center

I agree. Just looks like a buffed-out Black Beauty. I'm certainly no expert, but I've seen a number of similar buffed up Black Beauties over the years.

Re: k istanbul stamp generalizations

Any of the stamps can have really low-pitched cymbals. In my opinion, old stamps "seem" to have more low-pitched cymbals because of the way they present the overtone series, in addition to the large...

Re: Gretsch bop kit ground up 18" Round badge

I think the only 3 ply 14x18 without rings I've ever seen was rikeverglade's. I've seen 18-12-14 from as late as '61 with a 3 ply bass drum (with rings), and 6 ply toms.

Re: Gretsch bop kit ground up 18" Round badge

Did 6 ply 14x18s ever have re-rings? I don't think I've ever seen one. It's the 3 ply 18" BDs and FTs that usually have them.
