Re: Old pies

Well, maybe just harder for me to find. I don't buy cymbals without hearing them first, and that's the hard part.

Re: Old pies

While I love old K's, for me and my son it's currently thin Tran stamp rides that do it for us. Happily, they are less inexpensive than old K's although they are harder to find.

Re: Did this Ludwig snare system actually work?

Never saw or heard of this before to my recollection, but for something apparently designed for use as a school drum I don't think the snare design was thought out well. From my experience back in...

Re: WTF............Ludwig 1124 Hi Hats

Examine the shorter tube and Rod carefully to see if somebody cut them back. Back in the day when I was a teenager playing jazz, I set up my hats very low. The rod in my hihat stand at the time, I...

Re: Evans Calftone heads

Things are different today,. Modern drums, mounts, and heads are manufactured for greater projection and resonance and are usually brighter sounding than in the days of old. Modern 45 degree bearing...

Re: Evans Calftone heads

The brush response is actually quite good IMHO. Remo Ambassadors, as an example, have a sprayed on texture which when new gives them an unnaturally bright brush sound and when the texture quickly...

Re: Evans Calftone heads

Guess what? Back in the day no one got the projection in sound and resonance of modern coated Ambassadors. We got round, mellow and melodic tones. Nothing wrong with your preferences of course, but...

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

You say you wouldn't use abrasives. You do realize that both aluminum foil and Coke are abrasive, right?

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

You definitely do not want the mufflers touching the heads while you tune them.

Re: 1960's Ludwig drum set - need help identifying and pricing.

I have a clear interior circa 1962 WMP Super Classic bass drum. Both the matching 13in and 16in tom's we got with it have white Interiors. All three have the same pre-serial number Keystone badges...

Re: A rookie question about tuning my Ludwig’s.

if I understand you correctly you're going to tune the top head before putting the bottom heads on? Is that correct? You really don't want to do that. if you tune the top head to your liking and then...

Re: Old Man Rant: How hard is it to spell cymbal?

So I guess we cannot speak about **** sapiens or ****genized milk either. Or even ****geneas. It does get kind of silly. It is seems that anybody who uses those letters is somehow assumed to be using...

Re: Old Man Rant: How hard is it to spell cymbal?

That's not really that surprising. If a completely unaware non drummer is selling a set of drums he or she acquired, the logos on the heads are very likely the most prominent indicator of a name, and...

In the '20s wasn't it called a Super Ludwig rather than a Super Sensitive?

Re: Wrap issues on possible buy

I think I understand what Slingerfan was referring to. In the image of the bass drum the red seems to dominate more than the green. On the tom green seems more dominant then the red. This of course...

Re: Just picked up this beauty! What did I get?

As indicated on the drum itself it is a Super Ludwig. I believe the Super Ludwig model was the precursor to the Super Sensitive models. Others can provide much more detailed information than I on...

Re: Ludwig Silver Sparkle Drums

Cool. You have a nice set of Super Classics. They look great and they appear to be in very good condition from what I can see. Unfortunately the inlays in the hoops are missing, but they can be...

Re: Ludwig Silver Sparkle Drums

Depends on the heads, and how you tune them, the sticks you use and your technique. My set never booms. My son and I do tune them higher or lower depending on the music and the ensemble they will be...

Re: Ludwig Silver Sparkle Drums

Too loud? For what purpose? Joe Morello used that same configuration, with a single tom mount, and in the same silver sparkle finish by the way, for years playing acoustic small ensemble jazz with...
