Re: Hollywood Meazzi Chrome Snares?

I saw one on Ebay and it was up for the longest - it sold recently. Possibly the same one? I ended up buying an Italian "Fran Co." 10 lug steel snare on here 2 years ago. Great all purpose snare and...

Re: Sonor Teardrop 2

Love that "TV" wrap, great set. I think that finish was discontinued right as they switched to 6 ply. There may be orphan drums with 6 ply in some transition sets because that's usually how it went,...

FOR SALE: Rogers Red Onyx 12" Tom

I initially listed this with an MIJ set with a similar wrap but figured I'd list it on its own.

Early Fullerton era (circa 1969-70) Rogers 12" rack tom. Red Onyx finish has some scuffs but...

Re: Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste

Yup! Betty Harris' "There's a Break in The Road" is a clinic in linear swamp funk. That was James Black also I'm 99% sure. To play with that much grease and control while being so syncopated at such...

Re: Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste

One of my favorite drummers of all time. For another funky New Orleans cat, check out James Black. He was also an accomplished jazz drummer. But his funk game is very top shelf on Eddie Bo's "Hook...

Two days later guess what I find at...Guitar Center of all places! In the strangest case of random luck in my entire drum lifetime. An Ajax Nu-Sound for about 1/6 the price of the one listed on...

Re: Why Play Vintage?

Vintage Pros: Usually lighter shells and not an overkill on the bulky, tank-like hardware - Tone controls (I personally love them, some hate them) - wraps are a lot more unique - more visually...

FOR SALE: MIJ "Red Tiger" 20/13/16 Set (+ a sorta matched Rogers tom)

Update: See photos in my post further down the thread.

The toms are Lido Supreme badge and the kick is U.S Mercury, but the wraps are identical. More about each drum:

20" Bass Drum - Shell...

Re: 60s Premier and Ajax Nu Sound Sets

I went and looked at the blue pearl set. It's a cool beater at a great price, seller is a very nice guy, but I will probably pass on it. It was missing the tone controls, a rod and claw for bass...

Re: 60s Premier and Ajax Nu Sound Sets

Yep, as JDA said, the red sparkle was listed at 130K as a joke I'm assuming. This one is now at $850. Assuming this is the same set but you noted Canada and this is in the US.

Re: 60s Premier and Ajax Nu Sound Sets

I saw he originally had them listed for $130,000. And dropped them to $850. Ooooookay. It could've been an error in listing but I saw an MIJ with an asking price of $2,000 recently so nothing...

Re: 60s Premier and Ajax Nu Sound Sets

Thanks for the input! I've been reading up a bit and for the style of music I'm doing and tuning, I think the birch shelled Premiers may fit what I'm going for more. I've read the international sets...

60s Premier and Ajax Nu Sound Sets

I was looking to pick up a player's set to both gig and record with and have been curious about older UK drums lately. I have a Premier Royal Ace snare with an aftermarket throw that's been my...

Re: Premier vintage 60s/70s

I played a bop sized root beer/"duroplastic" set once - it sounded great. Early 70s. Insane tuning range, miles beyond Ludwig or Slingerland (not a fan of either). Besides that I don't have much...

Re: I Have Never "Gotten" Gretsch Drums

I personally like the Gretsch RB-SSB bass drums. The bass drum has a warm woody thump - more attack than Ludwig or Slingerland, but less punchy than Rogers. It just suits what I do, sits really well...

Re: This is the Display Your Sonor Drums Thread

I've had a D-424 and this D-471 and neither has a cap. I've seen repros on the market, or rather snares with repros, but I don't think I've ever seen an old Sonor with the cap still on the throw in...

Removing caked on stubborn rust from chrome MIJ hoop

So I picked up a '69 MIJ bass drum for a beater set and though the drum itself, wrap and inlay are in pristine condition, the bottoms and insides of the metal hoops are totally caked with thick rust....

Re: Slingerland Hollywood Ace question

Great snare drum and has the standard throw, not the more finicky Zoomatic like the one-ply Artist snare (which usually goes for more money and was the other wooden 8 lug Slingerland snare of the...
