Re: Different camps of drum fanciers

I eventually settled on Rogers. I've always had a soft spot for Gretsch, especially if they have Rogers or even Slingerland hardware (commonly done at Jack's in Boston). The hardware is principally...

Re: This is the Display Your Rogers Drums Thread

Nice kit! I'll bet that one sounds great.

Is the maple finish original? If it is, it's a rare bird. You see very few that weren't wrapped unless they had the Wildwood outer ply. Whatever, Wildwood...

Re: This is the Display Your Rogers Drums Thread

Great pics. Now the only thing that Top Hat is missing is a cane.

Re: Premier Genista for Jazz?

I too have never had a Genista, but will be interested to read what others might have to say about it.

I suggest you place it on a snare stand instead of using the bass mount to see if you get a...

Re: 1969 Blu Gee Script Logo Snare

Can the center portion ever be larger diameter than the edges unless we are talking an inside edge (which really wouldn't make sense)? I don't recall learning this in geometry. Or maybe it's the new...

Yikes, that one approaches $5k.

The approximate sound you get.

Re: 1969 Blu Gee Script Logo Snare

Very unusual. What do you think they mean in the advert when they say the inside shell diameter is larger than that of the plastic head? I take that to mean the head isn't going to fit, but surely...

Speaking of Hawthorne Drum Shop

There was a thread not too long ago regarding prices and so for at the Hawthorne Drum Shop.

Here's a beauty he has. It's very hard to pass this one up, but pass I must:

Re: Identification help

Impressive ID. I would have at least needed a photo taken looking straight at the badge instead of the angle shot, but still wouldn't have had a clue about that one.

Re: Vintage 1960's Astro 14x14 floor Tom in Blue Oyster Strata

The finish is very similar to one that Ludwig used on the Standards. Good luck on the sale.

Re: Ludwig for Ludwig?

It was in fact a very important and advantageous trade. Now you will be carrying about 1000 cubic inches less drum. I found that made life a lot easier and the drum can be tuned to sound just about...

Re: Gretsch silver sealer evaporate?

Fade is likely if the drum was used extensively without a front head or otherwise left out without any heads on it for lengthy periods of time. I think evaporation is unlikely.

Re: Show Off Your Silver Sparkle

Gorgeous kit. I've seen it in archive if I'm not mistaken. That is the most 12 looking 13 I've ever seen. When did Dynasonics move from 3 to 5 ply shells?

Re: Complete 1950s set up, gretsch and zildjian

I'm not in the market, but nice setup. Very special color too.

I admired the broken crash, as well. Looks like something Gary Mallaber would have liked.

Good luck with the sale!

PS - is the undercoat the gold with the black as the overspray, or visa versa?

It sure looks as if you devised a great method from here Gerard. Nice restoration and a beautiful drum.

Looks like one to try Martin281.

Re: Price of Vintage Drums depressed

You needed to buy a Gretsch or Camco 18, 12, 14 just a few years earlier to keep up with a Road Runner.

I remember the Road Runners very well, except the one I was close up to was equipped with a...
