Gene Krupa playing a Dynasonic?

Just saw a YouTube video (music with a slideshow) of Gene Krupa's "Drum Boogie" from 1959. At 7:20 or so into the video, there's a picture of him playing his kit in what looks like Yankee Stadium....

Re: What's with the insane asking prices on Reverb?

I saw that ad before, and you're right. It's insane. For one thing, they describe the finish as a burl, as if it were actual wood. It's not, it's just a wrap. I think sometimes people are just a bit...

Re: Old Man Rant: Something I hope never happens to drums.

I saw a tiny Mapex kit in Disney World a couple of years ago, set up on an outdoor stage for some sort of live show. The kit looked like it had been dragged behind a Land Rover on safari in Kenya...

Re: Yamaha sd246 snare

Those didn't have a tone control, as I recall. The large hole is a vent, but the grommet was removed.

Re: Help identifying 1969 Ludwig kit in gold mist

Hello, and welcome! Pictures would help a lot, but the sizes are the same as a catalogued kit "Pro Beat" that shows up in the 1975 catalog. I'm sure some of the experts will answer up shortly.

Re: Dyna-sonic to Dyno-matic

You're right about that...my dw pedal has ball bearings in places no one would have dreamed of back in the day.

Re: Dyna-sonic to Dyno-matic

My guess would be some type of skateboard bearing, which seems to be pretty commonly used in pedals lately. Even the cheapest ones would be adequate to the task, since they're not used in a...

Re: Did Ludwig Ever Have A Catalog Kit in the 60's of 13, 14, 16, 18 24?

It was called the Pro Beat sometime in the early 70's, before that, I don't know. I had that kit with the b/o pointy badges, date stamp inside was 1971 or 1972 I think.

Re: Sneaky artificial inflation in vintage drum market?

I understand now. I wasn't in the bidding, just seemed weird to me. Thanks for the info!

Re: Sneaky artificial inflation in vintage drum market?

It didn't say anything about a reserve, but how can automatic bidding just keep jacking the price up? It seems like it's the same thing as bidding against yourself....forgive me, I'm not very eBay...

Re: Sneaky artificial inflation in vintage drum market?

There's a Yamaha pedal on eBay. It's an auction, and within a couple of days, it's gotten some 35 bids, bringing the price up to above what I think is reasonable. I looked at the bid history, and...

Re: trixon snare problem--need help

The shape or angle of the snare wire end plates has a lot to do with how a particular set of snares sounds on a particular drum. You just need to experiment with different types of snare wires, if...

Re: Rogers Supreme pedal question

Figured out how to remove it, in case you were curious. I stuck a straight pin thru the roll pin, and found that it goes almost all the way through to the other side. I used a 1/16 drill bit, which...

Hmmm...I see that, too, but mine doesn't have the holes. Not sure if mine is maybe a newer or older version.

Repair/mod for Rogers Blackjack beater

I had an extra blackjack beater in my parts bin, minus the spring and e-clip. I used some clear flexible tubing that fit tightly over the beater shaft and cut a piece to approximate length to fit...

Re: Crazy Good snare...

I'm not a guru or even a Rogers expert by any means, but I do know this: my brass Dynasonic has a sound that none of my other drums have. I know it's not the sound of a wood Dyna, but it is special....
