Re: Carl Palmer

In my mind, I can play anything....but my hands and feet don't take orders from anyone! So somewhere in between Buddy Rich and Ted Poor is me....Mr. Middle Income.

Re: Anyone ever see these before? Need help IDing!

Physics states that there can NEVER EVER be a free-floating tuning system that allows independent tensioning between top and bottom heads. It's always going to be an either/or situation. And no,...

Re: Carl Palmer

Yeah I don't see any indication of a Palmer vs Rich theme here....I only see people who know what they are talking about making comments that Palmer was definitely influenced by Rich, that's all. No...

Re: What's the story behind this drum?

I was going to say....there aren't that many calves out there big enough to make that size calfskin!

Re: Ludwig or Rogers.

I owned a World Max Black Hawg drum for awhile that I guess was supposed to be a good copy of a real BB....meh...I didn't go crazy over it. It was okay. I'd prefer an Acrolite or a Supra over...

Re: Carl Palmer

That's a pretty cool video, actually...I think so, anyway! Nice editing! Carl Palmer listened to Buddy Rich (as did we ALL!) and "allocated" licks (as we all did ....or at least TRIED to do!). Ian...

Re: Rogers Re-Wrap

Rogers always had the best blue glitter finish, imo. It just seems to compliment the look of the hardware or something. The only finish I like better on a Rogers kit is piano black.

Re: Carl Palmer

Yeah, I loved Carl's playing with ELP. He had a certain level of British smugness that seemed to go along with his soul-less-yet-orchestral style. He wasn't what I would ever call a pocket drummer,...

Re: Peter Tork's Passing

The Monkees were part of my childhood memories of carefree goofing around and fun. They depicted the life I thought was perfect (at the time) -four best buddies living together in a cool "pad" of...

Re: Favourite era for Ludwig shells

Can't argue with you about that. Computer aided equipment, more choices and all...BUT...I just can't get excited about any new drums. Maybe it's because they are all so available now. I guess that's...

Re: Ludwig 75th Anniversary "Eagle" Kit for Sale on Ebay-Big Beat Configuration

I never liked the look of those. The birds look more like pigeons than eagles (to me).

Re: If vintage drums were vintage cars then what's what?

I'd rather compare a Gretsch bop kit to an American car....like a Shelby Cobra or maybe a Bill Thomas Cheetah!

Re: Ludwig-Slingerland Legal Briefs on ebay

LOL! I know that Slingerland and Ludwig were probably the most brutal competitors with each other. I think it might have even been on a personal level. I can't verify that, but there are other...

If vintage drums were vintage cars then what's what?

I watch those Mecum auctions when I catch them and I am also a fan of nice vintage cars, in general. I can't help but equate some of my vintage drums to those old cars. I compare the old,...

Re: Soliciting opinions on lug/hardware finishes........

Unless you can get brass bass drum spurs, floor tom legs and all tom mounts brass, then I think it looks less-than-matched. Therefore, I'd go with chrome. Too bad nickel silver isn't an option.
