Re: Older guys

In a self-imposed hiatus but check in and comment now and then.

After getting pooh-poohed for run-ins with 2 new members ONLY here to hock very questionable drums, and then being slandered to be...

Re: What's with the insane asking prices on Reverb?

Sounds like you're selling there - so if low fees are the least of it, what comes before that?

Re: What's with the insane asking prices on Reverb?

Why do you prefer it? Curious as I might be encouraged to buy there.

FWIW:

I find sold Reverb listings by googling item x and then looking at the PHOTO section that indicate Reverb and click...

Re: What's with the insane asking prices on Reverb?

There's a big difference between those who know the market and price high for very select pieces vs. those who don't know the market and do faulty research (or not) and base their price off those...

Re: Joe Morello tribute kit

The bells are awesome, the crash rich. Your kit looks very clean. Hope you enjoy it!

Re: Joe Morello tribute kit

Nice kit. Picked up early 60's glossy a bit ago. Enjoy! [how you like that Sweet Crash? Buddy has a few of those and they sound plush].

Re: 1960s Ludwig snare wires ...

Yes. As far as I am aware the the 1's w/ metal end caps came with Jazz Fests and Super Classic (these are longer as they extend on 1 end beyond the shell) snares.

For earlier SC snares (pre-serial...

Re: 1960s Ludwig snare wires ...

There are 12, 18 (2 types : for Jazz Fest + Super Classic [these are longer])+ 20 strand 60's wires.

You have the 12 (plastic) + 18 (both JF + SC types = metal); the 20 strand is plastic.

Re: eBay

did a few different Jazz Fests - some are doing what you're speaking about; others did not. Not cool & I think if they keep this up it will hurt ebay.

Re: Sneaky artificial inflation in vintage drum market?

Hey Gary,

I sell only on ebay. I do not like Reverb since there are so many ridiculous listings that are way too high on top of being poorly written + having poor photos ... which to me seems like...

Re: eBay

Maybe a glitch on some listings. Noticed a few times when I wanted to see what was what and then up pops up a completely different drum/kit. Doesn't happen all the time. Seems like ebay's making...

Re: Ronseal WET ROT WOOD HARDENER

Hey Mark,

I'll answer here anyway : I have a 60's Ludwig tom that had moisture damage that softened part of the layers of wood AT LEAST around a portion of the bearing edge. PURDIE SHUFFLE advised...

Water damage along bearing edge w/ RONSEAL

Tom clearly was wet long enough to soften plies along partial area of bearing edge. The tom might be shot. BUT : am curious if using Ronseal WET ROT WOOD HARDENER to correct is a good move or bad.

Re: Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl ? CHROME vs. NICKEL

Thank you for your 2c K.O..

Perfect answer. I personally prefer nickel over chrome as the tone is warmer. But for that collector on for OBP ...

Depending on how well the shell(s) clean up...

Re: Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl ? CHROME vs. NICKEL

Hey Michael,

I have the OBP JF with nickel. Maybe I need to clarify : for collectors, will they insist on a JF/DB OBP be in chrome rather than nickel? Or will they not care all that much?

Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl ? CHROME vs. NICKEL

Opinions on CHROME vs. NICKEL hardware on OBP (RINGO) 1960's snare/DB kit : how big a difference between the two if drums are equal in condition (say FINE / VERY FINE)?

Asking as I'm curious...

Re: Rogers drum set

Get a drum key (cheap) and remove heads. Take photos of where wrap is lifting.

Cleveland era MARDI GRAS PEARL (probs English Rogers). Don't know what that Rogers patch is on the rack tom though. Measure depth/width of the drums BY THE SHELL (not the hoops). Difficult to tell...

Re: Ludwig Club Date

Yes. 12x15" FT's came with 1955-1963 CD kits.

Issues with it : missing most of consolette; FT more than likely added to the quoted mid-60's 12/20 (ask for badge #'s). Gut also tells me value big...

Re: But is it selling?

Buyer's market? I don't see much of a market at all!!! I pay attention mostly to ebay (maybe that's my problem???) & am beginning to wonder if most sell on reverb, et al.

I haven't seen a snare...
