Re: Luddy guys: what is this????

Not a transition badge. Large keystone-Chicago ~'83-'84 per Rick Gier's book.

Re: 1960 Trans Badge Ludwig Blue Note Questions

Everyone has a line they will or will not cross and justifications for crossing said line. Everyone needs those justifications or else you have to admit to yourself that you are just a thief. Some...

Re: 1972 Slingerland 5" x 14" Sound King snare drum

Personally I agree with Mark, but I'm not sure that translates to any appreciable "real world" price difference.

Re: Slingerland, can you id this snare

The badge (Niles-no serial) and the Zoomatic are not conflicting time periods, both were used in '62. The conflict is the Zoomatic on a 6 lug drum. That's a student model drum with the Zoomatic...

Re: Ludwig Supraphonic Cut Badge???

Nice observation kdg. Rick Gier identifies that badge as a BO4 (~'82-'84) in his Ludwig Dating Guide. He also mentions some trimmed B/O badges being used on factory seconds in "later eras" but...

Re: '68 Slingerland Artist in Tangerine Satin Flame

Yes, that number would be expected for '68.

Re: '68 Slingerland Artist in Tangerine Satin Flame

Thanks Mark. You are correct about this snare not using the tin strap extended wires. This one has the wide clasps for straps that was introduced in mid '68 per Dr CJ Wenk. Pending a serial this...

Re: 66/67 Slingerland 50N Blue Agate

According to Dr. CJ Wenk the aluminum set-o-matic was used through '69 with the transition to chrome occuring in late '69 and into early '70. Therefore, based on the aluminum set-o-matic, this kit...

Re: 66/67 Slingerland 50N Blue Agate

Those serials would typically be expected to be '69 but early '70 is entirely possible. Are any of the set-o-matic (tom mount) parts aluminum? Are the hoops COB or COS? The "P" stamp (pearl)...

Re: Slingerland Zoomatic Repair

Thanks Mark. Your snare is a bit older than you thought. Serial 5059 is most likely early '63 with late '62 a possibility. My latest documented '62 serial is 35xx with a Nov. '62 date stamp. My...

Re: 66/67 Slingerland 50N Blue Agate

Nice kit. Features of those drums suggest '68-'70 time frame. Could you share some serials?

Re: !930's Slingerland Brass Snare Value

Either way they are lower line economy models. Current value is most likely consistent with that.

Re: Powder coated hardware stripping

I've used paint stripper. Messy and time consuming of course. And unfortunately it becomes apparent why it was powder coated in the first place.....the surface finish is bad!

Re: !930's Slingerland Brass Snare Value

Sure looks like a Universal Model but with eight lugs. Member vintagemore2000 should be able to shed some light on this one.
